Introduction

Although Forza Horizon 4 is best known for providing racing gamers with an incredble open-world experience of the finest scenery that the British countryside has to offer, there’s always going to be the lingering temptation to head to the drag strip.

Once you’ve earned enough influence, 285k to be precise, you’ll be able to unlock the full drag racing features that Forza Horizon 4 has to offer.

After this is unlocked, FH4 provides you with various drag strips throughout the map to keep you entertained, with each having their unique distances and surfaces, which can make it a little challenging to find the perfect all-round drag car.

In this guide, we’ll be listing our favorite drag racing cars within the game, which will undoubtedly earn you one of the top spots on the leaderboard with the right tune and driving technique.

While some of the fastest cars in Horizon 4 may well be the perfect solution to mastering the four-mile Juggernaut leaderboards, they’re not likely to be quite so impressive on the quarter-mile.

As you’ve probably guessed, the same situation applies for the half-mile, one-mile, and two-mile drag races within the game, too.

It all comes down to trial and error, combined with the perfect technique and tune to master each variation.

We’ve already taken an in-depth look at tuning in Forza Horizon 4, which is more aimed towards building the ultimate drift tune.

If you’re keen to learn how to build and refine the ultimate drag tune in Forza Horizon 4, you’ll want to check out this excellent guide from HokiHoshi on YouTube:

Although some cars are insanely quick straight out of the box in FH4, you’ll undoubtedly need to carry out upgrades, such as engine swaps alongside tuning if you want to head anywhere near the top of the leaderboards or even just to beat your buddies.

Thankfully, compared to drifting, drag racing is pretty straightforward. However, unlike drifting, timing is everything, so you’ll want to spend some time mastering the essential aspects of drag racing.

If you fancy a break from the intensity of drag racing, we highly recommend a quick play of Madalin Stunt Cars 3, where you can pull off some crazy stunts in a completely free browser-based game.

Drag Tuning

The most important thing to consider is getting yourself the ultimate tune. You can have the fastest car in the game, but even if you beat your rival off the line, their setup may be superior to yours, providing that additional boost across the finish line.

You can download tunes from the in-game Forza Horizon Storefront or check out some of the most popular YouTubers for their recommended setup.

If you’re looking for additional mods, make sure you check out our Forza Horizon 4 mods guide.

Launch

If you screw up the launch in a drag race against a strong contender, you can almost guarantee that the race is over before it begins.

We highly recommend practicing in single-player to get started. It’s better to make the mistakes on your own in a practice session than when it counts against the homies!

Acceleration/Speed

Since drag races vary in length, it’s essential to get the correct setup to suit the distance. If you’re doing a quarter-mile or shorter, acceleration is critical.

For anything further, focusing on your car’s top speed will be vital, and even more so the longer the race gets.

Once you’ve mastered the drag strip, don’t forget to head to our best drift car guide so that you can also learn how to master the art of drifting.

If you’re looking to get the most out of your Horizon gaming experience, make sure you check out our guide on experiencing Forza Horizon 4 in VR.

For now, we’ll take a look at the drag strips on offer in FH4 before helping you find the ultimate settings to achieve the best launches possible.

A quick note before we start; if you are wondering why Toyota’s mighty Supra is missing from this list, you should check out our Forza Horizon 4 Toyota article which explains everything about it.”

After that, it’s time to explore the finest drag racing cars in Forza Horizon 4.

Forza Horizon 4 Drag Strips

For those of you looking for the ultimate drag racing experiences within the game, you’ll want to track down each drag strip.

Horizon Festival Drag Strip - ¼ mile

The drag strip located at the Festival site is the most commonly known in the game and provides the perfect opportunity to test your drag builds on a smooth road surface.

Greendale Abandoned Airfield/Aerodrome Drag Strip - ½ mile

Bamburgh Beach Drag Strip - 1 mile

Ice Lake (Winter Season Only) Drag Race - 2 miles

Juggernaut Highway Drag Race - 4 miles

As you can see, the drag strips in Forza Horizon 4 provide a wide variety of both lengths, and surfaces, which means that there’s no ‘one car fits all’ solution to finding the perfect drag car in the game.

Execute the Perfect Drag Launch in Forza Horizon 4

As we’re sure you’re already aware, how you leave the line is vital when it comes to drag racing.

If you’ve been hitting up the drag strips, but you’re feeling like you’re still not getting anywhere close to your competitors, there may well be a valid reason for that.

APEX Predator has made this great guide on launching your drag car as fast as possible in Forza Horizon 4 by utilizing various methods and controller settings to help blast your car off the line far quicker than your rivals.

Fastest Drag Cars in Forza Horizon 4

As we explained previously, there’s no perfect solution to finding the best drag racing car in FH4, as many cars are superior to others for different reasons.

With various length drag racing carried out on varied terrain, which ranges from asphalt to ice, you’ll need to decide which car is going to be best for the situation you’re planning to race in.

One option that you have is to check out the leaderboards for that specific race and see which cars from our list are topping the charts.

From there, you can either create a tune yourself using our tuning guides above, search for one online, or head to the in-game Storefront and add a tune to your car from there.

Although it’s a convenient solution, the downside of using the Storefront for your tunes is that you can’t modify or tweak them since all Storefront tunes come locked within the game.

Admittedly this might not matter if you’ve found the perfect tune, but the chances are you’re going to want to tweak some of the car’s settings to match your driving style or the specific race.

For this reason, we always recommend searching for a base tune online and refining it with your fresh new in-game tuning knowledge.

We’ve put these cars in order of how we’ve found them as all-rounders throughout the various drag strips, but some are going to be superior to others at the varied events.

So, let’s take a look at the ultimate cars for drag racing in Forza Horizon 4!

14 – Koenigsegg One:1

The Koenigsegg One:1 is a popular choice when it comes to both drag racing and also for high-speed runs.

Admittedly this is better suited for the long drag races, such as the Juggernaut highway race, where you’ll eventually maximize the potential top speed of the One:1 in the game, at 271 mph.

Although the Koenigsegg Regera is another popular choice for drag racing, you can see from the video above why the One:1 is often the better choice for both the shorter and more extended drag events.

Although the One:1 is capable of 273 mph in real-world testing, it only reaches 268 mph in stock form in Forza Horizon 4, with 271 eventually being achieved with the ideal upgrades.

13 – Maserati MC12 Corsa

The V12-powered Maserati MC12 is somewhat underrated when it comes to drag racing in Forza Horizon 4, and it rarely gets a mention as being up there with the best.

However, with the correct tuning, the MC12 has the potential to cause some major upsets on the strip.

Check out the video above, as the MC12 goes head-to-head against the Ferrari FXX and Zonda R on the drag strip.

12 – Rossion Q1

If you’re looking for a sleeper car to head to the drag strip with, look no further than the Rossion Q1.

This mid-engined American sports car from Rossion Automotive is based on the Noble M400 chassis.

In its stock, factory form, the Q1 utilizes a re-built 3.0 L twin-turbo Ford Duratec V6 engine, providing 450 hp and an impressive 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds.

When tuned correctly in FH4 using the setup provided above, you’ll be able to achieve more than 200 mph on the ¼ mile Festival drag strip!

11 - Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5

It doesn’t look too impressive in stock form, but the Ford Mustang RTR S5 can achieve over 1,900 HP and almost capable of hitting the 7-second barrier on the ¼ mile.

Not only is the S5 a fantastic drag car, it’s also up there with the best when being thrown sideways in FH4, too.

The RTR Spec 5 is an excellent, reasonably-priced car that’s capable of keeping up with the best, and undoubtedly one that should be occupying a space in your garage.

10 - ’32 Ford Custom “Double Down”

What happens when you combine 1,800 HP with a “car” that’s more akin to a go-kart? An absolute weapon at the drag strip, that’s what!

The Double Down is part of the Barrett-Jackson Car Park in FH4, and if you’re lucky, you may be able to score one for under 100,000 credits in the Auction House.

Not only does the Double Down look insane, but it often tops the leaderboard rankings on the Greendale Aerodrome, so it could well be a perfect choice if you’re looking to topple specific leaderboards in style.

9 - ‘68 Dodge Dart Hemi Super Stock

The Dodge Dart is often a serious contender on the drag strip in the real world, and as you’ve probably guessed, it’s no different in Forza Horizon 4.

You’ll often see the Dodge Dart topping various online leaderboards, but it’s often best at proving itself on the winter season Ice Lake (Ice Flat) drag strip.

With the right tune, the Dart can achieve some of the most impressive 0-60 mph times in the game, and at just 125,000 credits, this is another car that’s worthy of a spot in your garage.

8 - Koenigsegg Agera RS

The Agera RS made the Top 5 in our Fastest Cars in Forza Horizon 4 guide, and it’s here to prove that it’s not only capable of providing impressive top speeds.

Although it was once one of the quickest cars you could get in FH4, updates since release have somewhat pushed it down the rankings, but it remains one of the best all-rounders you can buy.

If you’re planning on going for a specific drag race with the Agera RS, we recommend opting for The Juggernaut, where it’s capable of reaching speeds over 275 mph.

For those wondering why we’ve placed the Agera RS above the One:1, the video above should summarize this nicely.

7 - Rimac C_Two

You may not have heard of the RIMAC Concept 2, but it has gone on to earn itself a reputation for being one of the most untouchable drag racing cars in FH4.

With 1,914 hp in stock form, the Rimac claims to be the world’s most powerful electric hypercar and can produce 0-60 mph in 1.85 seconds and 0-186 in 11.8 seconds with an unbelievable 2,300 Nm of torque.

However, it probably won’t come as much of a surprise that we won’t be leaving it in stock form for getting the most out of its potential on the drag strip.

When tuned correctly, the C_Two is one of the best drag cars in the game.

Check out how it fares against one of the previous impressive contenders, the Ford “Double Down,” in the video above, to check out its capabilities.

You can expect to achieve around 6.8 seconds on the Festival ¼ mile drag strip with the right tune.

6 - Mosler MT900S

Another underrated contender when it comes to drag racing is the Mosler MT900S.

The MT900S also took the second-place spot in our Fastest Horizon 4 car guide, thanks to its capabilities of reaching speeds of 311 mph.

It’s not only impressive at the upper end, though, and it’ll put up a good fight on the strip against some of the quickest drag cars in the game.

5 - Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione/Evolution

The 599XX comes alive in the longer races in the game, and since it took the win in our Fastest Car in Horizon 4 guide, with an insane top speed of 323 mph, it’s easy to see why!

Although it’s certainly no slouch on the quarter-mile, there will be better options out there for topping the leaderboards.

However, when it comes down to the long drag races where top speed becomes essential, you’ll struggle to beat the 599XX.

4 – Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Forza Edition

The LP700-4 FE is often a drag racing leaderboard-topper in the various in-game races, and we’re sure that many Forza enthusiasts will be disappointed not to see it at the top of our list.

While we can’t question that it makes for one of the quickest shorter-length drag racers, with it frequently clocking 7.1-seconds on the quarter-mile, there are some incredibly impressive contenders to give it a run for its money.

The LP700-4 FE is one of the best choices out there if you’re looking to land a spot at the top of the Bamburgh Beach leaderboards.

3 – Porsche 906 Carrera 6

Although it might not be the one Porsche you expected to see in our list, there’s certainly no denying that this is the most impressive offering from the German manufacturer when setting times on the drag strip.

Introduced to the game on August 28, 2019, as part of Update 13, the 904 Carrera GTS’s successor has a full fiberglass body, weighing in at just 617kg in stock form.

Combined with a potential 1,185 hp, which is quite a difference from its stock 210 hp, this insane power-to-weight ratio helps the 906 Carrera 6 fly down the quarter-mile in just over 6.7 seconds.

2 – McLaren F1 GT

Uh-oh, here come the haters!

That’s right. We’re afraid that the ever-popular Forza Horizon 4 leaderboard topper, the McLaren F1 GT, hasn’t taken the top spot on our list.

With that said, we adore this car, but we feel that there is one final contender that has the edge over it when it comes to all-round drag racing.

The F1 GT still occupies the top spot on many leaderboards, and deservedly so.

If you like to spoil surprises for yourself, then the video above will make no surprise with what takes the top spot on our list.

Ready?

1 – Shelby Monaco King Cobra

For those of you that have already been drag racing in Forza Horizon 4 for quite some time, you’ve undoubtedly been destroyed by the KC, unless you’re lucky enough to be behind the wheel of one yourself.

Although the McLaren F1 GT was the leaderboard topper in just about every event for quite some time, the Monaco King Cobra was introduced to the game later, as part of the Barrett-Jackson Car Pack.

While the F1 GT reigned supreme for quite some time, becoming the dragster of choice, when the King Cobra came along on April 9, 2019, it completely changed the FH4 drag racing scene.

Weighing in at just 590 kg in stock form, you’ll be able to achieve around 6.4-seconds on the quarter-mile using the King Cobra with an optimal drag tune.

Much like the domination of the 599XX in our top-speed guide, we feel that the King Cobra is the clear winner when it comes to setting the most impressive times on the drag strip leaderboards.

Conclusion

We fully appreciate that some of our list’s car choices may come as a surprise, but the leaderboards have provided the facts.

If you think we’ve missed off a car that should’ve been worthy of being included in our guide, make sure you drop us a message, and we’ll be sure to include it.

Although it can be frustrating when you realize that your dream JDM cars will never be able to cause an upset in the leaderboards against this insane rivalry, these cars will hand you the best chance of topping the charts.

We’ve all got that one buddy who’s way quicker down the drag strip, and the cars, and tunes, in this guide will provide you with the perfect opportunity to get the last laugh next time you cross the finish line.

When the Shelby Monaco King Cobra came along, it obliterated the current drag leaderboards, and if you can get your hands on one, then combined with the best tune and some practice, we have no doubt you’ll be smashing records in no time.
