alpharex headlights

Introduction

Aftermarket headlights or lighting products are probably one of the most common modifications that people make when they purchase a new car or truck.

Since the factory headlights with a chrome housing are often rather dull compared to the AlphaRex design that comes with black paint. Whether it is matte black or has a gloss finish, providing a luxurious, subtle aftermarket approach.

And what is most important about these headlights is that they come with an installation guide. Aplharex headlights are plug-and-play.

They also meet the American LHD regulation, which means they meet the DOT compliance and don’t void the factory warranty. Thankfully, they’re a direct replacement for the factory OEM headlights.

We can honestly say that these headlights are probably one of the best choices when purchasing an aftermarket headlight for your car or truck.

But who are AlphaRex? In the following chapter, let’s learn more about them and see what they are and where they come from.

If you’re not interested in the company, feel free to skip this section to check out the best products they have to offer.

What Are AlphaRex Headlights?

Before we dive into the AlphaRex headlights that are offered on the market, let’s first take a look at what are AlphaRex headlights in general and learn more about this company.

AlphaRex is a relatively new brand from the automotive aftermarket industry that specializes in building superior automotive aftermarket performance lighting based in California, US.

AlphaRex focuses on the philosophy of innovative technology, and their headlights are pretty revolutionary and implement stylish designs that stand out from the crowd against generic OEM or cheaper aftermarket alternatives.

Also, their headlights are good bang for the buck. They are not crazy expensive for what you’d get, especially compared to purchasing a new OEM replacement.

All of their headlights are SAE/DOT compliant and meet the ISO-9000, ISO-9001, and ISO-9002 regulations.

Also, they are direct replacements for the factory headlights, built from tough polycarbonate plastic, and can handle extreme weather conditions. These headlights are less prone to oxidizing and yellowing than other cheaper alternatives.

In addition, they use very quality projectors, and the light output is pretty good. On top of that, they look spectacular and have an extremely sporty look.

When it comes to colors, they often come with jet-black housings with a glossy finish or a stealth-looking matte black.

It’s these designs that help differentiate them from the competition.

Alongside an aftermarket black front grill, these headlights would complete the look like no other headlight out there.

Best-Selling AlphaRex Headlights

In this guide, we’re primarily focusing on truck headlights, given that they’re the main focus of AlphaRex and their headlight builds, but we’ve also managed to sneak in some drifter-friendly specials.

1. AlphaRex 08-13 Infiniti G37 Nova LED Projector Row Headlights

Now let’s cover the first headlight design on our list of AlphaRex headlights. And instead of going for a truck design. Let’s start it with JDM headlights. I bet that there are a lot of Infiniti G37 owners out there.

Luckily for you, AlphaRex has you covered.

The most popular is their Nova-Series projector headlights with a horizontal nova projector row. These headlights look spectacular, in our opinion.

They implement stylish designs and the ice-cube projector lens system. They also include the Osram Oslon black flat LED chip for the projector.

The headlights come with the signature activation light feature from AlphaRex with the sequential light show and implement a cut-off line to meet the American LHD regulations.

The AlphaRex headlights come in a few different color options such as matte black, shiny midnight, and also a chrome housing that enhances the stock look if you are more into keeping the OEM look for your G37.

Given the price tag, these headlights will be more appealing to the stancers/lifestylers out there rather than the budget drift cars.

Still, if you’re looking for the ultimate headlights for your G37 to show off at the meet, they’re undoubtedly worth considering.

2. AlphaRex 05-11 Toyota Tacoma PRO-Series Projector Headlights

Moving on to the second type on our list of AlphaRex headlights. And this is the headlight solution for the Toyota Tacoma produced between 2005 and 2011. This is the second generation of the Tacoma.

And honestly, any Tacoma from this era would benefit from these headlights since they will significantly improve the looks because today most of these trucks look much the same, and these will help your ride stand out from the crowd.

These headlights are from the LUXX series of headlights that AlphaRex makes. These headlights apply a LED tube as DRL around the projector.

These lights also come with an activation light feature. This feature runs when you start your Tacoma; in addition, there is a white DRL light. On the sides of these headlights, there is an amber reflector lens.

These headlights implement a single dual-beam projector for both low-beam and high-beam applications. This headlight implements LED chips that are proprietary and developed by AlphaRex.

And overall, this type of headlight is also a really good option because they come with an extremely reasonable price tag.

3. 14-22 AlphaRex Toyota 4Runner Projector Headlamps

Now let’s cover another product by AlphaRex headlights, also intended for Toyota, this time the 4Runner.

The 4Runner is another very popular model that Toyota has built since 2010, note that these headlights will only fit the models from 2014 to 2022. Mainly because before 2014, there was a different style of headlights. S since 2014, they changed the design.

Nevertheless, these headlights are from the Nova series of headlights. And these headlights feature the signature 3D ice cube projector technology AlphaRex. There is also a LED tube around the edge as a DRL feature. As well as a sequential turn signal.

There is also a unique activation light feature that turns on when you lock and unlock the vehicle. These headlights implement a quad projector design. The outer three projectors act as low beams, while the inner projector acts as a high beam.

According to their website, these headlights go for about $1,430. But if you visit the link on Amazon, you can find them for a cheaper deal. You should check out our link to get the best deal possible.

4. 09-18 AlphaRex Dodge RAM 1500 Projector Headlamps

Another great product on our list is the AlphaRex projector headlamps explicitly designed for the RAM 1500 truck built between 2009 and 2018. In other words, designed for the fifth generation of the RAM 1500.

This product is from the Nova Series of LED projector headlights. This means that it implements quad projectors. One inner projector for the high beams and three outer projectors for the low beam lights.

The high beam produces up to 6000k light output. And this output delivers an unmatched performance.

At the top, there is the DRL light bar that implements a white LED light. And at the bottom, there is a signal light that is an amber LED.

The projector comes in chrome, matte black, and jet black. The lens is made of polycarbonate plastic, which implements a layer of anti-fog agent, improving the headlights’ output in extreme weather conditions.

According to their official website, the price is steep, but thankfully, on Amazon, you’re likely to bag yourself a superior deal.

5. AlphaRex USA Nova Series GMC Sierra 14-18 Projector Headlights

Our next AlphaRex product is the Nova Series projector headlights for the GMC Sierra built between 2014 and 2018. More specifically, this model will fit the third generation of the Sierra model.

Nevertheless, these headlights come from the Nova lineup. Which, in our book, is probably the most desired type of headlights.

These headlights implement a quad headlamp design. The inner projector works as a high beam. At the same time, the three outer projectors work as low beams. The output of these headlights is an impressive 6000k.

There is also a LED light tube surrounding the light. This surrounding has 3 LED strips right next to the projector with the role of DRL module. The headlights have an activation light feature that turns on when you lock and unlock the vehicle.

According to the website, these headlights cost about $1,100. But on our link on Amazon, you can find an even better deal.

6. 15-17 Ford F150 Nova Series LED Projector Headlights

Next on our list of AlphaRex headlights is the Nova Series headlights for the F-150. A list of the best aftermarket headlights would not be complete without the F-150. And we are not talking about any F-150 here, but the model built between 2015 and 2017.

Similar to the other Nova Series headlights we covered, these also implement a lot of projectors. But this time, up to five. Three for the low beam at the top and two for the high beam at the bottom.

The headlights implement LED surrounding, as well as a sequential signal light. These lights also implement an activation light feature that turns on when you unlock your F-150.

These headlights cost about $1,380, according to the official website. But we think that you can find an even better deal on Amazon.

7. 11-16 Ford Super Duty Luxx-Series Headlights

And last but not least on our list of AlphaRex headlights is the Ford Super Duty Luxx-Series of headlights.

So, if you own a Super Duty built between 2011 and 2016, you will appreciate these headlamps. They might not be exquisite a the Nova Series, but the Luxx delivers. And all this for an excellent price.

Nevertheless, the Luxx Super Duty headlights implement two projectors. There is one for the low beam located at the top, as well as a high beam located at the bottom.

These AlphaRex headlight lenses are rectangular and also follow US LHD regulations. So you will not have to worry about passing the inspection with these lights.

These lights apply a switchback LED light tube around the light that functions as a DRL. As well as a sequential turn signal.

These headlights use LED chips developed by AlphaRex themselves at their factory. The headlights lens is produced from polycarbonate plastic which is good in terms of performance and longevity, so you don’t have to deal with yellowing and oxidation.

The housing of the headlights comes in a few different colors. Such as chrome, midnight black, or matte black. This will give you the ability to match the exterior color. So, if you have a chrome grille, you will need chrome headlights to complete the look.

And on top of that, these headlights come at a great price, which is an excellent deal. For more detail of the lights, you can check the link on Amazon.

Conclusion

In this article, we have learned quite a bit about AlphaRex headlights. First, we learned more about this company and the features that they implement on their headlights. They are an American company from California.

In the second part of our article, we discussed the headlight models they offer. We listed the most popular products that they make, as well as their primary features.

Overall, AlphaRex headlights provide excellent value for money. With a wide selection, they’re likely to transform your car or truck with their unique approach. We highly recommend checking out what they offer; hopefully, they have a perfect pick for your ride.

Are you considering taking your Nissan 300ZX to the next level by installing a wide body kit? We’re covering everything you need to know.

300zx wide body

Introduction

The Nisan 300ZX has been with us for decades. Although its looks divide JDM enthusiasts, we love its unique appeal and feel it’s arguably one of the best-looking JDM models.

The most popular and most commonly-found 300ZX variant is the Z32, sold between 1989 and 2000 in Japan. This model implements a really timeless design language.

We feel it’s somewhat underrated and underappreciated by car enthusiasts, but this does not necessarily have to mean that it is a bad thing. Quite the opposite. Mainly because you can find these for a bargain price. Especially ones that have been somewhat neglected.

With this in mind, the 300ZX makes a fantastic project car. Also, there were almost 100,000 of these sold in the United States, and the rarity factor does not come into play since you can find these cars everywhere.

drift 300zx wide body

Not to mention that the aftermarket is also really large for aftermarket body kits. Both here in the US, as well as in Japan. So, finding a kit with proper fitment is not a problem. These kits are often made out of fiberglass, so even if the fitment is a problem.

Even if they don’t fit, you can adjust them to fit. But before we dive into the 300ZX body kits, let’s learn more about the pros and cons of these body kits.

300ZX Wide Body Pros & Cons

Now let’s cover some of the pros and cons of the 300ZX wide body kits. There are pros and cons with every upgrade. Similar to the body kits for this specific model.

This is why it is often useful to learn more about the positives and negatives you can expect by installing one of these kits in your car.

Pros

Now let’s first cover the pros of the 300ZX wide body kits. What are the positives of installing a kit like this one?

Well, the first pro is probably the looks. Body kits transform a vehicle entirely into something new and different. And this is why people love these kits. Especially the Veilside kits that look phenomenal.

These typical widebody kits implement a lot of different body panels. Namely, front bumper, side skirts, front fenders, rear fenders, rear bumper, rear diffuser, front lip spoiler, door fillers, and front bumper extension options.

In addition, expensive body kits are tested extensively, and they will have a straightforward installation with a smooth transition from one panel to the other. In other words, spot-on transitions.

This is why we recommend to hobbyists and auto enthusiasts that you go for the highest quality molds you can get when it comes to modifying your car. So, you don’t have to worry about finish and fitment regarding high-quality parts. But what about the cons, are there any cons of these 300ZX wide body kits? Let’s elaborate more on that next.

Cons

Now that we covered the pros of the 300ZX wide body kits, let’s cover something about the cons that these kits have. There are also some downsides as well that you have to be worried about.

Regarding the fitment, we can say that these are not like your standard OEM parts, they can have dings and dents, cracks, indentations, and broken tabs. Also, in some cases, not fit at all and does not have an easy installation.

So, you will have to do a lot of prep work and fix these parts to make them fit well.

So, we can say that many of the manufacturers do not have the highest quality molds and they shouldn’t even build automotive body parts.

This is why you must go for a body kit that was proven already and has really good feedback and avoid going for some unique widebody kit designs that sometimes cannot fit.

You don’t want to throw your money down the drain. This is why choose superior quality with superior durability over something unique but poor quality.

With that covered, let’s move on to the 300ZX wide body kits.

300ZX Wide Body Kits

We discussed the pros and cons of installing a 300ZX wide body kit and learned that these kits have positives and some negatives.

Now that you are aware of them, we can move on and learn more about the top body kits that you can purchase right now for your 300ZX.

1. Duraflex Bomber Body Kit

Now let’s start with the first 300ZX wide-body kit. And this is the Duraflex Bomber Body Kit. This kit is indented for models between 1900 and 1996 and consists of four pieces.

These pieces include the Bomber front bumper cover, Vader Rear Lip under spoiler, Vader Rear Lip Under Spoiler Air Dam, and the Vader Side Skirts. So, in total 4 pieces. The deep skirts undoubtedly make this stand out from the rest.

The body kit is handmade out of fiberglass. The front bumper has an aluminum mesh grille to complete the look. And as the description says, it is designed with aerodynamics in mind.

But this is just a basic body kit, you don’t get wheel arches and other goodies. This is why it is very cheap, costing only $897, and on the second-hand market, you can find these kits even cheaper.

2. VIS Racing Ballistix Body Kit

Now let’s cover the second 300ZX wide body kit on our list. And this is the VIS Racing Ballistix Body Kit. So, what is this body kit all about?

Like the previous body kit we covered, this one also comes in four different pieces: The front bumper, rear lip, and two side skirts.

All of the pieces are made out of fiberglass. And we can honestly say that this body kit is probably the best bang for the buck. You can get it for only $769. So, it is cheaper than the previous kit we discussed.

And on top of all, we think that this kit looks phenomenal, and you get a ton for the price that you pay. Now let’s move on to the next 300ZX wide body kit.

3. 300ZX KBD Z32 Wide Body Kit

Now let’s move on to the next on our list of 300ZX wide body kits. And this is something special, especially when we are talking about KBD Body Kits Polyurethane Parts.

KBD is one of the companies that are most highly regarded when it comes to high-quality fit and finish. But their body kits also come at a steep price of $3,500. So, you better be prepared to pay for these body kits.

As their description says, you can opt for the 2+0 and the 2+2. So, the 2 + 0 will give you a polyurethane front bumper with front lip spoiler, 2 piece polyurethane side skirts, polyurethane rear fenders & add ons, 2 piece polyurethane front fenders, and so much more. All of the pieces come in a black finish.

Overall, this is one of the best kits you can purchase. Compared to the previous two that we covered, we can say that the difference is huge since you get polyurethane parts instead of fiberglass. This makes these parts easier to work on and more durable, and delivers maximum flexibility. Not to mention that they have one of the highest quality control in the business.

4. 300ZX CZP / Zero Wide Body Kit

Let’s now cover a true JDM product. This is the CZP / Zero 300ZX Wide Body Kit. And honestly, one of the coolest on our list. Especially for the guys who want something light and don’t want to install crazy spoilers on their cars.

I like this kit, and it’s not one of your typical widebody kits. In our opinion, this rocket bunny kit probably looks the best for this car. Mainly because it is sleek, and the car does not look like it came from a Fast & Furious movie from the early 2000s.

This means that even though the 300ZX is old, this body kit will make it look contemporary.

Nevertheless, the Zero Wide Body Kit does not include bumpers. With this kit, you only get front and wide rear fenders produced from fiber-reinforced plastic and gas door extensions.

And these kits are meant to be tough. Their service life is long, so you cannot expect to look for a replacement any time soon. But this kit also cost a good penny – around $3,500. But if you can find it at a discount, it will only cost you $1,999, which is a steal of a deal.

Now let’s continue with the next 300ZX wide body kit on our list.

5. 300ZX TwinZ Type 1 Wide Body Kit

Next on our list of 300ZX wide body kit products is a product made by TwinZ design products. And this is also another excellent option on the market.

This kit is probably one of the biggest kits in terms of pieces that you can get out there, with 13 pieces in total. And also, a very contemporary kit will make your car stand out and look more modern.

This kit includes 35mm front fenders and front bumper extensions. When it comes to the extensions, you can choose between the TwinZ Design P-Spec 1 v2 and the Jspec extensions.

The kit includes side skirts, door filler, 60mm rear fenders, rear bumper extensions, and gas door extensions.

Overall, the build quality, fit, and finish are excellent, with spot-on transitions. It will easily blend on the stock body, but this experience also comes at a price.

This kit will cost you about $2,999. So, be prepared to pay the premium if you want the best.

Now let’s move on to the next 300ZX wide body kit.

6. Veilside Z32 Wide Body Kit

We kept the best for last, and this is the Veilside Z32 Wide Body Kit. If you are into JDM cars, you probably know about Veilside and their work.

Their most notable product is probably the body kit for the RX-7 that was used on the Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift. This body kit is so extensive that it revamps the whole look of the RX-7. But is this the case with the 300ZX wide-body kit?

The short answer is yes. The 300ZX is no exception, and similar to their other kits, the one for the 300ZX is pretty good. Even though, compared to the rocket bunny styling, we would say that the Veilside is a bit dated.

But overall, it is probably the most complete kit out there, with front and rear bumpers, front fenders, rear fenders, and side skirts.

Also, when installing this kit, especially regarding the rear arch. Here comes the skill of the installer into play. Only a highly skilled person can guarantee you an easy installation.

And the price is really hefty; the kit costs about 900,000 yen. In US dollars, this would be about $6,900.

For 87,000 yen, you can get an extra rear spoiler with an LED stop lamp, and if you add another 120,000 yen, you can also get an FRP hood. FRP refers to fiber-reinforced plastic. Also, this kit can only be ordered from Japan.

Conclusion

So, we covered the 300ZX wide body kits that are out there. We discussed some cheap ones and also some expensive kits that exist.

And without any doubt, the Veilside kit caught our eye. This kit is special, and honestly, if you are a die-hard JDM enthusiast, this kit is probably for you.

Other kits that are somewhat comparable are the TwinZ and the KBD kits. Both of these cost around $3,000 to $3,500. Considering the value you get, we think they are worth it.

We would strongly recommend educating yourself about the fitment of these kits before you buy.

One thing is what they promise, and another is what they deliver, so be cautious about this.

Go for the kit that has the most genuine positive reviews from customers, preferably where you can see the kit on another car at a meet to ensure it meets your expectations.

cosmis wheels

Introduction & Cosmis Wheels FAQ

If you’re a drifting fan, you would’ve undoubtedly seen Cosmis Racing becoming an increasingly common sight in the community.

Given that drifters are known for getting a little too friendly with walls, it’s easy to see why cheaper wheels are such a common sight at drift competitions.

350z nissan k sport coilovers cosmis racing xt 206r black

Displayed on some of the most prestigious cars in the Formula Drift series, such as Dean Kearney’s insane Dodge Viper, it goes to prove that they’re capable of being pushed to the extremes.

If that’s not already convincing enough, perhaps this test will prove the true capabilities:

Although they come with a tempting price tag, they still provide quality wheels at a fraction of the price of the premium alternatives on the market.

So, before we show you their extensive range of wheels to suit just about any needs, let’s take a look at some of the frequently asked Cosmis Racing Wheels questions:

Who is Cosmis Racing?

Cosmis Racing first arrived on the scene in 2011 to a somewhat skeptical market.

Let’s face it – there’s nothing worse than seeing a cheap wheel that bends or even smashes to pieces at first sight of a pothole.

When drifting enthusiasts see wheels with what seems like a too-good-to-be-true price tag, their suspicions can quite often be correct.

supra toyota tein coilovers cosmis racing xt 005r white

Thankfully, Cosmis Wheels take a different approach, offering wheels capable of withstanding even the harshest elements that they’re likely to meet, even when pushed to their limits at the track.

Admittedly, no wheel is invincible, but it’s safe to say that their range has withstood pretty damn well to their extensive range of abuse that they’ve put them through:

Are Cosmis Wheels Reps?

A common question is whether Cosmis Racing Wheels are “reps,” and thankfully, unlike most lower-budget companies, we’re pleased to inform you that they’re not!

Despite their entry-level price tag that is commonly associated with poor quality wheels, Cosmis’ goal is to bridge the gap in the market, providing unique designs and durability for an affordable price.

When it comes to sourcing quality wheels on a budget, you’ll struggle to get more for your money than what Cosmis Wheels offer.

Are Cosmis Wheels Any Good?

It’s hard not to like a brand that offers unique, aggressive designs and impressive durability along with an affordable price tag.

With a wide range of styles, designs, fitments, and colors available, there’s likely to be a wheel to suit just about any requirement.

While they’re not going to match the quality found in some of the premium alternatives, such as Work Wheels, there’s no question that they’re far more affordable.

Let’s face it – not every wheel brand is willing to fire weaponry and drop their wheels from a ridiculous height to prove their case in point when it comes to being pushed to the limit!

Are Cosmis Wheels Lightweight?

Cosmis Racing provides aluminum-based wheels to the market, providing fantastic prices by not opting for fancy materials and technologies.

Unique features such as integrated rigidity “ribs” in the inner wheel, which help provide enhanced structural integrity, prove that durability was more of a priority than weight-saving, and we can’t complain about that.

While they’re not the lightest (or heaviest) wheels on the market, you’ll likely need to dig deeper into your budget if weight is one of your primary priorities.

350z nissan bc racing coilovers cosmis racing xt 006r gunmetal

Cosmis Wheels do several things exceptionally well, and in this case, it’s finding an optimal balance between weight, durability, and performance.

With that said, if you can get your hands on their seemingly discontinued “R1 Pro” range, they have opted for flow-forming technology, providing a combination of wheel casting and forging to provide their lightest wheel to date.

While currently out of stock with suppliers, we hope to see the R1 return shortly, along with some exciting new wheels in their flow-forming line-up.

NRG Innovations offer some of the most unique steering wheels on the aftermarket tuning scene, and we’re taking a look at their range in this guide.

Introduction & NRG Steering Wheel FAQ

Back in 2003, NRG Innovations burst onto the aftermarket tuning scene, pushing the boundaries by offering tuning enthusiasts some truly unique products.

Known for their stand-out wacky colors and designs, NRG brought some of the awesome ideas that we’ve seen on the various worldwide tuning scenes to the masses in the US, combining them with an affordable price tag to match.

By 2017, NRG already had over 1,400 different product variations on offer, expanding from steering wheels through to hubs, quick releases, shift knobs, and even some of the most popular drifting racing seats.

Known for being true tuning enthusiasts themselves, the NRG team has even begun hosting its very own annual Drift Matsuri event.

With their products being tried and tested by some of the best in the drifting world, such as Formula Drift pilots Arimas “Odi” Bakchis, Ryan Litteral, and Matt Field, there’s no doubt that they’re capable when being pushed to their limits.

Check out this video featuring Odi Bakchis, where the NRG steering wheel range gets put through comprehensive testing against its competition:

What is the best NRG steering wheel?

NRG is known for providing good quality wheels on a budget, and as long as you’re confident you’ve ordered a genuine product, this will mostly fall to personal preference.

When looking at wheels, we would consider a variety of factors, such as materials.

For example, some of you may find the more ‘polished’ designs too slippery when pushed to the limits at the track, where a leather option is likely to be a better bet.

On the other hand, their shiny, colorful offerings may appeal more to someone looking to show off their ride at the local stance meet.

Also, consider whether a deep-dish or flat wheel suits you best – which brings us to our next question:

How do I fit an NRG steering wheel to my car?

To fit an NRG steering wheel, you’ll need to find the correct hub/adapter for your application.

For example, there are specific fitments for the Nissan 240SX (S13/S14), Nissan 350Z/370Z/G35/G37, Honda S2000, and plenty more.

Since NRG are best-known for their short hubs, taller drivers may find themselves too far from the wheel, which is where you can consider options such as a universal quick release to space the wheel out a little further.

Alternatively, you can also look at some of the deep dish wheels in their catalog, which will essentially do the same.

NRG offers various deep-dish wheels, ranging between 1-3” deep dish wheels in their selection. When using a Short Hub Adapter, the quick release adds 2.5” to the steering column, making the combined length 3.5-5.5”.

It’s worth noting that while the Short Hub Adapters are vehicle-specific, the quick release is universal. Therefore, the Short Hub Adapter is required, but the quick release is optional.

We strongly advise measuring where you’d like the wheel to sit, or trying out other setups, if you can, before purchasing.

Are NRG steering wheels universal?

Yes. However, you’ll need to ensure that you have the correct hub adapter to suit your vehicle.

It’s also worth considering that with an aftermarket steering wheel, you’ll sometimes need to remove your vehicle’s clock spring.

When doing so, you may disable vital electronic functions and possibly have dashboard lights appear.

One of the most common lights is the airbag light, but thankfully, the NRG short hub kit will provide resistors that will disable the light from the dash.

Respectable quality and affordable price tags rarely go hand-in-hand, but Aodhan Wheels seem to be defying the odds. Let’s check out what they have to offer.

aodhan wheels

Having soared to popularity in recent years, Aodhan Wheels (or AodHán) are making a name for themselves in the tuning scene.

In this guide, we’re checking out the history of Aodhan Wheels, and what their wheel range has to offer.

Who Are Aodhan Wheels?

Despite being in the industry for more than ten years, Aodhan’s recent popularity has helped the brand make a name for itself.

With an extensive range of reasonably-priced wheels, it’s easy to see why so many tuning enthusiasts are eager to check out the Aodhan Wheels line-up.

Based in Hayward, California, the team at Aodhan (pronounced “Odd-Han”) aims to set itself apart from the lower-quality budget wheels on the market, focusing on quality while retaining the reasonable price-point that they’re known for.

If you’re interested to know more about the brand, make sure you check out the video below from our buddies at Fitment Industry.

The first wheels in the Aodhan Wheels catalog were the ‘AH’ series, which we’ll be checking out shortly, and the majority of these designs were marketed towards the JDM scene, basing the wheels on familiar classics.

As the ‘AH’ series earned the brand a positive reputation in the market, they opted to focus specifically on the drifting and stance scenes, providing wide, aggressive fitments with their ‘DS’ series.

For those looking to fill out the fenders on their widebody kit, the ‘DS’ series provides a fantastic solution, offering 18 and 19” diameters, along with up to 11” width wheels, with up to 4” dish.

While the likes of Work Wheels are at the forefront of providing the ultimate quality and materials, they come with a price tag to match, which isn’t always an ideal solution for drifters, which is where Aodhan arrives to provide a far cheaper alternative.

For those of you a little too familiar with destroying wheels, being able to buy known-and-loved designs at a fraction of the price will undoubtedly be a temptation.

While it might not earn you too many scene points, you’ll have the last laugh when you have more cash on upgrades.

As the ‘DS’ line saw continued success for the brand, it was time to move into the ‘LS’ range, this time bringing Euro styling to the luxury market, alongside the big-power track and drifting sectors – perfect for those with gigantic brake setups.

The most recent addition to the Aodhan squad has been the arrival of the ‘AFF’ series, which brings even more unique designs.

However, designs aren’t the only thing that the ‘AFF’ series has to offer, as this new premium range provided the opportunity for the brand to move into the ‘flow forged’ sector, bringing their most robust yet lightest wheels to date.

With this extensive range, the brand can now target the entire market of performance, drifting, luxury, and stock/OEM vehicles, which is why we feel it’s the perfect time to check out what Aodhan Wheels has to offer.

How Are Aodhan Wheels Made?

Aodhan implements several different methods when it comes to creating their wheels, varying between their product ranges.

Single-Phase Forging

Firstly, they have ‘Single Phase Forging,’ typically used in their ‘AH’ and ‘LS’ series wheels. Aodhan states:

To achieve a wheel that is lightweight and uncompromising in strength Single Phase Forging begins with an unmatched quality aluminum Cast center, which is then met with pressurized rollers to stretch the wheel to the desired specifications.

Single Phase Forging allows for a great range of wheel widths within each design. Using this technology, we create a wheel that is stronger and lighter, very similar to a full forged wheel at a much more reasonable cost.

You can read more about the Single Phase Forging process on their website.

Dual-Phase Forging

Next up is their superior ‘Dual-Phase Forging’ process, commonly found in their ‘DS’ series wheels, with Aodhan stating:

Beginning from a cast center born from the finest raw materials, the wheel is spun at a high rate of speed, while at the same time unique circular rollers add extreme pressure to the inner barrel, similar to single-phase forging, but goes a step further.

Utilizing this process to the outer lip simultaneously. Creating a stronger compressed barrel as well as a larger lip uncompromising in strength.

You can read more about their process here.

Advanced-Flow Forging

Finally, the most impressive wheels in the Aodhan range are their ‘AFF’ series, which featured ‘Advanced Flow Forging’ technology.

Utilizing Advanced Flow Forging enables Aodhan to produce their most robust yet lightest wheels to date, with Aodhan stating, “Advanced flow forging technology introduces a new and industry-leading process to better the wheel.

This process allows the wheel to be much lighter than maintain a stronger structural integrity. the AFF series opens the market to consumers looking for the sizing and aggressiveness of a large wheel but will still maintain a lightweight strong application.

Aodhan explains this process more in-depth here.

Are Aodhan Wheels Good Quality?

Unlike many cheaper wheels on the market, Aodhan is keen to provide superior quality than its competitors while still ensuring affordability.

Speaking on their quality standards, Aodhan stated – “The test production and verification process is carried out strictly according to the condition of test production: CMM dimensional inspection, leak detection inspection, and imbalance inspection as well as Impact, bending and rolling test. All of our wheels exceed fatigue and rolling resistance and CASS corrosion testing standards.

Now that you’ve gained a thorough understanding of the company, it’s time to check out the exceptional value wheels that the Aodhan Wheels has to offer.

Based on their Advanced Flow Forging technology, the ‘AFF’ line is the premium offering from Aodhan Wheels, providing their strongest and lightest wheels to date.

Introduction & FAQ

If you’re looking for the ultimate seating options for your ride, then there are a few manufacturers that are likely to top your considerations list.

While famous names such as Recaro, Sparco, or even budget options such as Corbeau are frequently thrown into the mix, there’s a clear industry leader when it comes to the JDM selection - BRIDE.

Established in 1981, Bride has become the seat of choice for JDM legends such as Keiichi Tsuchiya, Naoki Nakamura, and Daigo Saito.

Having passed the stringent Japanese ASEA approval, with rigorous safety benchmarks, BRIDE has proven to provide some of the most eye-pleasing, timeless designs and remains at the forefront of safety in both road and track cars.

Passing ASEA’s strict testing procedures is far from simple, with products required to pass many harsh tests successfully, comprised of a “head restraint forward crash test,” “head restraint static test,” “seat and seat mounting test,” “seat belt mounting test,” and “flame resistance test.”

As well as its seal of approval from ASEA, BRIDE is also the first Japanese seating manufacturer to earn an FIA license, with a total of nine models in their range approved for competing at the highest levels of drift competitions across the globe.

Proudly sporting the “Made in Japan” tag on their seats, their superior quality is exactly what you’d expect from some of the finest craftsmen in the industry.

Combining refined hand-crafted skills with advanced materials and strict quality control, you can count on BRIDE to deliver the ultimate products, whatever your needs.

Many of their range comes in a variety of options, from the more affordable FRP options right the way to Carbon Aramid – the raw material of Kevlar.

With Kevlar best known for its use in bulletproof vests, alongside super aramid, you can count on this to provide the best possible support in the worst-case scenarios, thanks to their overwhelming rupture resistance.

Each seat shell from BRIDE has been crafted entirely by hand by their skilled employees, from the resin and curing agent, right the way through to carbon and aramid fibers.

After a thorough inspection, each seat is ready to leave the factory to find its home in some of the finest race cars across the world - but will it find its way into your ride?

You’ll have to check out our full range of BRIDE seats below to decide the perfect option for your needs!

Are Bride Seats Universal?

Mostly, yes. When you purchase a BRIDE seat, it’ll typically fit any car, but you’ll need to remember that each vehicle will need specific rails to fit correctly.

There are some rare exceptions. For example, cars such as Lotus Exige, Elise, and sometimes even smaller vehicles like a Miata will often have shoulder-width limitations.

In this case, you may need to bear this in mind and look at the narrower options.

Thankfully Enjuku Racing has a comprehensive range of genuine BRIDE rails for various applications, and they come highly recommended by us at Drifted.

Bride Seats Pronunciation

When you purchase your stunning new seats, they’re likely to become a talking point at the local meet, so it’s always a good idea to get clued up on the correct pronunciation of the brand!

Although many enthusiasts will (quite understandably) refer to the brand as its spelled - BRIDE - the pronunciation is actually “Brid” in Japan.

Knock-off/Replica/Fake Bride Seats

True JDM enthusiasts will most likely let out a sigh of frustration here, but unfortunately, the used market when it comes to BRIDE seats are flooded with fakes.

In Europe, a fake company, which used the trademark of “Bride Europe” began misleading innocent consumers into assuming they had purchased from a European BRIDE vendor, despite being no better than your usual fakes.

For those of you considering buying fake/replica seats, we beg you to reconsider. Doing so is putting your life in danger, as they are likely to have gone through no testing whatsoever, unlike the authentic seats, which have to pass incredibly harsh testing.

peeping seat jimmy up

If you’ve seen some Bride seats come up for cheap, and you’re questioning whether they’re genuine, the age-old saying – “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is” – couldn’t be more accurate.

Given that BRIDE seats are hand-crafted using the most meticulous quality scrutinization, we certainly wouldn’t expect to be questioning whether they’re real or not.

If they look fake, we’re willing to bet they are - it’s that simple.

With that covered, it’s time to take a look at the most sought-after seats in the BRIDE range, which will be the perfect match for old-school classics through to high-spec, modern-day competition drift cars!

Best Bride Seat Models

With such a wide selection to choose from when it comes to BRIDE seats, we’re going to look at how they compare and help you decide the perfect option for your specific requirements.

Whether you’re looking for a period-correct seat for your classic race car or an FIA-approved racing seat for your drift weapon, there’s something for everyone in the following selection.

Let’s check out the very best of the BRIDE seat range.

Bride A.I.R

bride air red frp jdm

Our comment: One of the brand-new products in the BRIDE range is their A.i.R. series.

With a classy, unique design, the A.i.R. range is designed for two-seater vehicles such as the Nissan 350Z.

Utilizing the much-loved LOWMAX system alongside their newly-designed Formula Driving Position, this is perfect for those lacking head clearance.

Increased back rigidity through a semi-monocoque structure on the hip-side provides superior holding performance, making it an ideal choice for maximum snugness when throwing it down sideways.

With this excellent, fresh design weighing in at just 6.8kg, it’s also bound to help you shed some weight in your ride.

Manufacturer description:A newly designed Formula Driving Position with LOWMAX system. Full bucket seat for 2 seater vehicles in stream design.

By adopting the newly designed Formula Driving Position and the LOWMAX system, the head clearance can be secured, so we will provide the optimum seat position for high-height drivers. Utilizing an FRP silver shell for the shell material, it is finished with a light weight of 6.8kg.

Bride Digo III

bride digo iii light gradation jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black, Charcoal Gray, Gradation, Red
  • Seat type: Reclining
  • Purchase link: Bride Digo III

Our comment: If you’re looking for a slim-fit reclining seat for your vehicle, then the Digo III could well be the answer you’re after.

With a width of just 485mm, this can fit even the narrowest of applications, and they’ve also shaved off 30mm from the height by this version, making it even more versatile.

While this is a fantastic option for those with restricted space in a compact car, the lack of base support will likely become an issue if you’re planning on drifting or even pushing hard in the twisties.

With that said, it’s a great option if you lack space and looking for a convenient option for entering and exiting your vehicle.

Although they’re not going to be an ideal choice for everyone, those prioritizing comfort may well want to consider opting for the Bride Digo III.

Manufacturer description:A compact comfort seat perfect for car models with tight interiors.

The DIGO II Series slims down the shoulder support for car models with tight interiors such as light cars of 550 cc or less. Therefore, it is an extremely compact seat with a shoulder width of 465mm. Additionally, it is designed with a lower knee support section to increase ease of boarding/exiting. This model matches car models such as light and compact cars.

Bride Euroster II

bride euroster ii gradation jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black, Charcoal Gray, Gradation, Gray, Red
  • Seat type: Reclining
  • Purchase link: Bride Euroster II

Our comment: Another seat in the “comfort” range is the EUROSTER, which is a fantastic choice for those that are frequently undertaking longer journeys.

Utilizing a high-class faux suede fabric, these feature the new Ergonomics Design, which provides the ultimate driving comfort.

BRIDE has marketed the EUROSTER as an ideal option for those looking to transition from the comfort of a luxury vehicle to sports seats for the first time.

While you can expect all of the comforts that your OEM seats have to offer, the lack of holdability means that they’re not going to be an ideal choice for drifting.

Manufacturer description:Focusing on comfort such as sitting comfort and ease of boarding/exiting, etc. to avoid getting tired even on long drives.

The EUROSTER series is designed to be a seat focusing on comfort such as sitting comfort, ease of boarding/exiting, and operability while keeping the driver from getting tired. In terms of holdability as well, the seat’s design doesn’t sacrifice ease of boarding/exiting. This is the perfect model for those changing to a sports seat for the first time.

Bride Euroster II Cruz

bride euroster ii cruz red jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black, Charcoal Gray, Gradation, Red
  • Seat type: Reclining
  • Purchase link: Bride Euroster II Cruz

Our comment: If the Euroster alone doesn’t provide enough comfort for your requirements, these Cruz seats will offer additional luxuries.

Not only do you get optional armrests for supreme comfort on those long journeys, but the Cruz has also been fitted with a seat heater, which plugs into your 12V socket.

If you’re looking for the ultimate comfort from your new BRIDE seats, and you’re not concerned about the lack of base support required for drifting - look no further!

Manufacturer description:The installed armrest enables long drives without getting tired. A comfort reclining seat using a luxurious faux-suede seat material. EUROSTERII CRUZ is a standard comfort seat model with an ergonomic design perfect for long drives, created so that a specialized arm rest (sold separately) can be attached.

It uses a luxurious faux-suede fabric as its seat material. In addition to its pleasant texture, it is also slip-resistant, making it an excellent seat material that realizes moderate hold performance. EUROSTER’s well-balanced design is popular among those who are purchasing their first sport seat, as it fits types of cars from wagons and mini-vans to highway TOYOTA Hi-Ace 200 lines.

Bride Euroster II Sporte

bride euroster ii sporte beige leather jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Leather – Beige, Black, Red
  • Seat type: Reclining
  • Purchase link: Bride Euroster II Sporte

Our comment: You’re probably wondering where the rest of the seat is, but that’s the unique selling point of the “Sporte” model.

Those of you looking for the ultimate comfort in your old-school classic can enjoy this unique low-back, protein leather alternative.

Although the seat doesn’t meet the Japanese safety requirements due to the lack of headrest, it’s the perfect choice for a classic car or other unique vehicles and has found a strong following from marine enthusiasts.

While these aren’t what you’ll be wanting for your competition drift car, they’re a unique offering nonetheless!

Manufacturer description:A neoclassic low back seat featuring the seat of the EUROSTER Series, with its ultimate comfort and performance, equipped with a newly designed FRP shell backrest.

The EUROSTER II SPORTE is a low back reclining seat which uses protein leather as its seat material. The seat is based on the EUROSTER II, praised for its comfort, while the back rest uses a newly designed shell made of FRP with a focus on holdability. Due to its lack of a head rest it does not meet Japan’s current safety standards, but it is a new style of seat which can be used in ships like pleasure boats and classic cars, etc.

Bride Histrix

bride histrix black super aramid black carbon jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black
  • Seat type: Fixed back
  • Purchase link: Bride Histrix

Our comment: The Histrix will provide a tremendous period-correct style bucket seat for vintage vehicle owners.

This simple, fixed bucket seat made from high-grade leather and a super aramid shell is a popular and classy finishing touch to any classic cars’ old-school interior.

Manufacturer description:High quality low back model armed with super aramid for classic sports. A masterpiece of low-back seat, which has been resurrected by strong demand from users.

Design and sticking materials that harmonize with classic cars. The surface of the seat has a leather texture, high-grade synthetic leather and also excellent durability is adopted. Super aramid which is strong against breaking strength is used for shell. Besides safety, it also brings out a “racing” presence. In addition, the punching work on the back of the seat adopted for breathability is a masterpiece handcrafted by a skilled craftsman of BRIDE.

Bride Stradia III

bride stradia iii gradation aramid black shell jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black, Gradation, Red
  • Seat type: Reclining
  • Purchase link: Bride Stradia III

Our comment: The Stradia series brings the traditional BRIDE design that JDM fans know and love for drifters looking for a reclining option.

With the most significant update to the series in over fifteen years, the latest design is perfect for canyon carving, circuit driving, or being pushed to its limits in a car thrown sideways.

Utilizing the legendary LOWMAX system for the perfect driving position, along with a one-touch reclining lever coupled with their best reclining mechanism to date, this is one of our favorite seats in the BRIDE range.

If you’re after a seat that’ll suit a daily driver where you need to access the rear seats, but you also like to drive hard or hit up the track, look no further - Stradia has you covered.

Manufacturer description:A characteristic seat design that realizes easy boarding/exiting and holdability.

The STRADIA series, which has undergone its first full model change in about 15 years, is a new generation of reclining seat created with BRIDE’s original idea in mind: to combine the hold performance required for circuit driving with the convenience and comfort for daily use. From the design, body shell and frame to the cushion, and reclining mechanism, BRIDE is a newly designed flagship model created with 40 years of cultivated experience and technology in the motor sports scene.

Bride Streams

bride streams charcoal gray jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black, Black (Leather), Charcoal Grey, Gradation, Red
  • Seat type: Reclining
  • Purchase link: Bride Streams

Our comment: Another option for those looking for a comfortable daily driver, the STREAMS series offers a medical comfort seat to the market, perfect for longer drives.

Despite its relatively flat shape, the STREAMS range is still capable of providing moderate support.

In addition, it absorbs shaking and impact, reducing fatigue over time, helping to prevent back pain thanks to reducing the shock on the lumbar vertebrae.

With extra features such as a rear storage compartment and a 12V seat heater, it’s not an ideal choice for drifting, but it could be worth considering if you’re used to grinding out miles on the highway.

Manufacturer description:Ergonomic body-friendly medical comfort model.

The STREAMS series is a seat designed to reduce the burden on the driver’s body during driving. Ergonomic backrests and seating surfaces always keep a good hold feeling and an appropriate driving position. Body-friendly medical comfort reclining seat[adjustable seat], that is the STREAMS series.

Bride Xero CS

bride xero cs black super aramid black carbon jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black, Gradation
  • Seat type: Fixed back
  • Purchase link: Bride Xero CS

Our comment: Bride’s Xero range introduces its exciting new fixed bucket seat offerings to the market.

If you’re wondering the difference between this, the RS, and the VS models, it falls down to size.

The CS model is the medium-sized offering in the range for width and features longer head containment bolsters than the smaller VS offering.

For those of you that loved the now-discontinued Bride Zeta range, the Xero is its successor.

Although you can no longer get yourself a brand-new Zeta, we feel that the Xero is a worthy replacement for the much-loved seat.

Utilizing their LOWMAX technology alongside input from some of the worlds’ best racing drivers, this FIA-approved seat is going to be a superb option for those looking to drift or race competitively.

Manufacturer description:A full bucket seat for a next generation, combining high functionality, comfort, and safety. In the unlikely event of an accident or collision, the XERO RS is equipped with a large head guards to help protect your head. This full bucket seat was manufactured down to the smallest detail for driveability that far outclasses its contemporaries without compromising safety.

Its fit and comfort have both been improved through its design, made to hug the hips and femoral region, while quilted fabric lining the inner knee supports provides superior fit and seated comfort. These features make fatigue caused by long-distance enduro race practically a thing of the past, allowing the driver to maintain high levels of concentration while driving.

Our comment: If you loved the look of the Xero CS model above, but you’re looking for something broader with longer head containment bolsters, then you’ll want to check out this option.

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black, Gradation, Red
  • Seat type: Fixed back
  • Purchase link: Bride Xero VS

Our comment: If you’re a slimmer-build, and you’re looking for an FIA-approved seat for a car with a smaller cockpit such as a Miata or perhaps even a Lotus Elise/Exige, then look no further.

Although this features the same design as the Xero CS model we reviewed above, this is the narrowest offering in the range, making it an ideal choice for cockpits where a lack of space is a known issue.

Bride ZETA IV

bride zeta iv vs red super aramid black carbon hans compatible jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black, Gradation, Red
  • Seat type: Fixed back
  • Purchase link: Bride ZETA IV

Our comment: ZETA is another legend in the drifting scene, and it’ll likely come as no surprise that it’s been BRIDE’s best-selling bucket seat since 1990.

Designed with racing in mind, Bride’s highly versatile Zeta rage can be fitted into a wide selection of applications thanks to its ergonomic design.

Once again, utilizing their LOWMAX technology, drifters are spoiled with another superb fixed-back option, this time a more daily driver-friendly option than the Xero range, yet still with FIA approval and HANS device compatibility.

If you’re looking for a friendly option for the weekdays that’s still capable of being pushed to the limits at the drift track when the weekend arrives, here’s your solution.

Manufacturer description:ZETA is the full bucket seat standard model of BRIDE.

ZETA is the best seller of BRIDE full bucket seat standard model since 1990. This was designed to match the human skeleton and body shape, and considered for the safety of road going, circuit driving and other motorsports. ZETA is the racing comfort model.

Bride Zieg IV

bride zieg iv red frp super aramid black carbon jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Color options: Black, Gradation, Red
  • Seat type: Fixed back
  • Purchase link: Bride Zieg IV

Our comment: If you like the idea of the ZETA range above, but you’re worried about struggling with the bolsters when it comes to shopping trips, the ZIEG series provides the solution.

With added convenience over the Zeta, yet more than enough support for hard track sessions, it’s no surprise that the Zieg has become increasingly popular in recent years.

With integrated LOWMAX technology and FIA approval, this will undoubtedly be a contender to Zeta’s crown for many daily-driven drifters.

Manufacturer description:Deep hold shape ideal for circuit driving.

ZIEG series has a deep hold shape shell design with the round backrest line for wrapping the driver deeper to withstand strong lateral G during high speed such as circuit driving. This is a model that pursues the most important “hold performance” required for full bucket seats.

Bride Zodia

bride zodia black frp low max system lotus elise exige jdm

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal (Designed for Lotus Elise/Exige)
  • Color options: Black
  • Seat type: Fixed back
  • Purchase link: Bride Zodia

Our comment: The Bride Zodia is one of the lesser-known models in the range.

Designed for the tightest interiors, where having clearance and space for bucket seats is a real issue, is where the Zodia will fit right at home.

While the Lotus Elise and Exige were the primary considerations for creating the Zodia, they’re also likely to be a perfect fit for a range of smaller applications.

We’ve found that they’re often the perfect fit for JDM kei cars, such as the Suzuki Cappuccino and Honda Beat.

With the right seat rails, the Zodia could also become an ideal solution for a wide selection of smaller cars, and we’d highly recommend whether they’ll suit your application.

Manufacturer description:Competition-use fixed bucket seats exclusively designed for Elise, Exige, Beat, and Cappuccino.

ZODIA is a competition-use fixed bucket seat designed for sports cars with extremely tight interior space such as Lotus Elise, Lotus Exige, Honda Beat, and Suzuki Cappuccino. It is designed with a compact form so it can be installed in tight seat spaces.

Strut bars have laid the foundation for many heated internet debates over the years, but what exactly are they, and will you benefit from adding them? We cover everything you need to know.

strut bars

Introduction

Whether you’re into drifting, stance, track racing, or drag racing, we’ve got no doubt that strut bars would’ve popped up in conversation (well, argument) on many occasions.

Commonly, the most typical strut bar design is a simple ‘bar’ that connects either your front or rear strut towers, adding improved strength and rigidity while also reducing flex and body roll. The combination of these, in theory, enhances your cars’ handling.

Most aftermarket upgrades come with a mutual agreement among enthusiasts that they’re worthwhile. However, the benefits of strut bars can often be somewhat hard to prove, which leaves many questioning whether they’re worth including on your build list.

Some drivers will state that the difference with strut bars is night and day, while others will say they’ve felt no difference after installing, claiming they’re useful for nothing other than engine bay bling.

Although it can be challenging to prove the facts, either way, it’s clear that many cars, particularly older ones, benefit significantly from strut bars, mainly when pushed to their limits on the track.

We’re going to be explaining what strut bars do, how they work, and whether you’re likely to reap the benefits of installing them to your ride, whether it’s a drifter, a daily driven stance-car, or a quarter-mile dragster.

Strut Bars Explained

Firstly, ‘strut bars’ are frequently known under several different guises, such as strut tower bars or maybe even strut tower braces, but strut bars and sway bars are entirely different, which we’ll be exploring in-depth shortly.

The main downside of the commonly-found MacPherson Strut design is that the strut is part of the car’s geometry. Therefore the handling load gets sent to the strut towers, causing chassis flex.

Strut bars join the two points of your strut towers to improve your MacPherson Strut-type suspension by ‘tying’ the towers together, whether at the front, or the rear of the car, providing additional reinforcement.

With the additional tension from the strut bar bracing, you’re likely to experience less body roll and flex along with improved rigidity.

When driven hard into a corner, the cars’ suspension compresses far more under the increased pressure on the corner that absorbs the load than the opposing side, which then shifts the suspension geometry.

The purpose of a strut bar is to help even-out this load so that the tension gets distributed between the two sides, reducing issues such as camber adjustment under pressure, which often makes the car both unstable and unpredictable in challenging situations.

When the car gets pushed to the limit, a strut bar’s benefits would typically provide noticeable handling improvements.

Front or Rear Strut Bars?

You’ll typically find strut bars installed on the front suspension, but some owners may opt for the rear or go all-out with a front and rear setup.

Most cars will see the maximum potential benefit when installing their strut bars on the front.

Since strut bars are most useful on race cars, you’re likely to be throwing the front-end of the car into the corner, which is where the weight will be shifting to, therefore applying maximum stress to the front region.

When you fit a strut bar to the rear of the car, it’s less likely to have such a significant impact, but some find that it can add a subtle extra refinement when coupled with the front brace.

Owners of AWD cars such as Subaru Impreza’s will find that upgrading the rear strut tower brace has far more impact than the front, especially when combined with a rear sway bar, so it’s worth speaking with owners of your specific vehicle.

Unsure what the difference between a strut tower brace and a sway bar is? We’ll explain.

Strut Bars vs Sway Bars

It’s easy to see why the two get confused, and although some guides will tell you that they’re the same thing, that’s far from correct.

While strut bars are located under the hood or in your vehicle’s trunk, sway bars are installed underneath the car, between the front or rear wheels.

Sway bars, or stabilizer bars, balance the car’s weight by reducing the body roll and weight shift or “sway”, this pulls the cornering weight to the inside of the tires rather than forcing it to the outside.

The benefit of sway bars is improved traction and handling, alongside reduced swaying through corners and improved balance.

With rear-wheel-drive (RWD) cars, using an uprated front sway bar reduces oversteer, enabling improved handling for track racing where necessary. On the flip side, if you’ve got a rear-wheel-drive car with a tendency to understeer, you can install an uprated rear sway bar to reduce the issue.

With all-wheel-drive (AWD) cars, an uprated rear sway bar will reduce understeer, where a front sway bar will reduce oversteer. It can be a little trickier when it comes to the AWD platform, and we’ve typically found that the rear strut and sway bars will have far more impact than the front.

When it comes to front-wheel-drive (FWD) cars, an uprated rear sway bar will help reduce the understeer, which is why they’re so commonly fitted to the likes of the Honda Civic for maximum track day potential.

If you’re looking to reduce body roll while correcting over or understeer, then sway bars might be the better option for your needs.

You can mix and match between the front and rear sway and strut bars to find the perfect balance to see what works best.

It’s always highly advisable to discuss with knowledgeable members of car owners clubs to see what they consider to be the ultimate setup.

Do Strut Bars Actually Work?

Ah, the million-dollar question. Please don’t send us any hate mail, folks!

Many car enthusiasts want to know whether they’re necessary when upgrading your handling and whether they truly make a difference. The simple answer, for the most part - yes. Some, more than others.

Strut tower braces are typically one of the cheapest and most convenient additions you can make to your car.

First off, it’s worth ensuring that your car doesn’t come with factory strut bars if you haven’t already.

If it does, it’ll be worth finding out whether your aftermarket alternative is likely to provide additional benefits.

Most bars utilize a bolt-on method, where you’ll need to fix the mounts on each side before seeing for yourself whether the upgrade was worth it. Simple.

overhead engine bay shot scion frs gt86 2az fe

Strut bars will typically provide the most significant benefits to lightweight cars that are more prone to higher body flex levels, and they’re likely to the responsiveness in the corners significantly.

Older cars will also often suffer from higher levels of body flex and roll/stability issues, in which case, strut bars will likely tighten things up and make it more refined when throwing it into the corners.

With an uprated sway bar, we would expect improved stability, reduced body roll, and superior corner grip during hard cornering at the track or when looking for a more refined setup for your drift car.

For those with a modern, highly-refined, stiffer chassis, you’re not likely to experience the same level of benefit since there’s unlikely to be much room for improvement.

In which case, it could end up being nothing more than a shiny accessory under the hood, which may well be enough to keep some owners happy!

Most owners we’ve seen that have been disappointed with their new sway bar upgrade have typically installed them on their daily drivers for a tame canyon run before heading online to tell everyone that the benefits are fake news.

Many are disappointed because they don’t push the car hard enough to utilize the strut bars, even if they think they are.

You’re only able to reap the rewards of strut bar upgrades when pushing the car to, or beyond, the boundaries of your suspension setup.

daigo saito 2jz toyota chaser jzx100

Likewise, if you’re hoping that a strut bar will improve your drag car, you’re going to be left disappointed. Since the only benefits of strut bars are present in the twisties, we don’t expect you’ll be doing too much of that in your drag car!

To summarize, we highly recommend testing out whether strut bars work for you if you’re frequently pushing your grip or drift car at the track, as strut bars can make a great addition to the right setup.

While it won’t provide you with miracle reductions in your lap times, it’s likely to provide a far more refined and predictable feel to the chassis when cornering at high speeds.

We’d personally recommend upgrading the essentials first for those who are just getting started with upgrading your track or drift car, such as suspension and tires, alongside breathing mods such as an aftermarket intake and exhaust.

Strut Bar Pros & Cons

Since we’ve established that strut bars can be somewhat controversial at times, we’re going to look at some of the pros and cons to consider to decide whether they’re likely to be a worthwhile upgrade to your build.

Strut Bar Pros

Well, get started with the positives before moving on to explore the negatives.

Improved Handling

Although some may beg to differ, we’re willing to place our bets that the majority of drivers who genuinely push their cars at the track will reap the benefits of improved handling from their strut bar upgrades.

Less flex combined with increased rigidity makes the perfect combination make your car feel more planted and refined, especially for those already running a stiffer suspension setup.

Chassis Refinements

When it comes to older cars, they’re likely to have far more flex than the modern alternatives, where strut bars offer significant improvements.

If you happen to have an older, lightweight car, this is the perfect combination for reaping the rewards that strut bars have to offer.

Stress Reduction

Without a sway bar, you’re putting increased stress on both the chassis and suspension components, which will result in wear and tear over time.

Given that the strut bar distributes the pressure to the struts far more evenly, this means that you’re not going to be putting disproportionate amounts of stress on a single strut when pushing the car in the twisties.

Convenient Installation

Strut bars are often one of the easiest upgrades you can carry out, and on some cars, it can take just a few minutes, assuming you have a spanner handy.

Typically it’s as simple as removing the existing nuts, placing the strut bar over the existing bolts, and then re-tightening the nuts. It’s always worth checking beforehand to ensure that this is the case for your specific vehicle.

Likewise, if you don’t see the benefits, then removal is just as easy, and we do not doubt that someone will be more than happy to take it off your hands.

Reasonable Value

Strut bars are one of the most affordable aftermarket upgrades you can get, even more so if you’re lucky enough to stumble across used bars on the market.

Some of the cheaper models can be extremely affordable, but the likes of the highly-sought-after JDM options will come with a higher price tag, but they’re still well worth the cost.

Bling Bling

Even if you’re not looking to throw the car down as hard as possible, many enthusiasts install these strut tower braces to their stance or show cars purely for the added engine bay bling.

With the ability to match the look of your car by customizing the look of your sway bar, we have to admit that they can look pretty damn awesome under the hood, even if you’re not making the most of what it has to offer.

After all, a little added weight on a show car isn’t going to be a problem, and you might even find it’s convenient to have it to lean on when it comes to working on or detailing your engine bay.

There aren’t just the typical straight strut bars either; there’s a vast selection of shapes and designs to choose from on the market for a unique touch.

Strut Bar Cons

This one’s so that naysayers can say, “I told you so”.

Jokes aside, there are downsides to just about every aftermarket tuning upgrade, so we’ll take a look at some of the reasons we’d probably not be opting for a strut bar on our builds.

Additional Weight

We’ve explained that unless you’re pushing the car to its actual limits, whether drifting or circuit racing, then you’re probably not going to reap the rewards of adding strut bars to your car.

In which case, you’re adding unnecessary weight, but let’s face it, if you’re not chasing lap times or looking to shave every pound of weight you can find, the downsides are minimal.

We’d even say it’s worth it for most people, even if it’s just for the added engine bay bling.

Possible Drilling

In some rare circumstances, fitting a strut brace isn’t a simple bolt-on affair like it is on most cars, and you may have to consider drilling your struts.

Although it’s a simple process, it’s something that not everyone would be entirely comfortable with, and if you’re required to do so, we highly recommend ensuring that you use rust prevention methods on your fresh new holes.

Thankfully, with most cars, this is just a convenient bolt-on procedure.

Unrealistic Expectations

Although this isn’t necessarily a ‘con’, it’s the most complained about aspect on the internet, so we had to include it.

When enthusiasts install strut bars, they often assume that they’ll bolt on their shiny new bars, and all of a sudden, they’ll be throwing down lines at the track like Keiichi Tsuchiya.

Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Strut bars can be a fantastic addition, but they’re not going to transform your daily driver into an absolute weapon on the canyon runs, we’re afraid.

see through hood turbo engine bay

The same applies to those that are looking for straight-line improvements.

It’s not unheard of that people assume tightening up the chassis will improve their straight line or drag racing traction, but that’s certainly not going to be the case with strut bars since they’re all about cornering.

Creaks and Vibrations

With the added tension and rigidity, you may experience some new sounds in your ride due to the lack of flex and new-found stiffness from the strut bars.

We’ve heard about creaking sounds from the sunroof and various other random areas.

Now that we’ve explained why a strut bar could benefit your build, as well as running you through the various pros and cons that come with them, it’s time to look at some of the popular choices on the market.

We’d love to cover every car out there, but thankfully the guys over at Enjuku Racing have done that for us, so if we’ve not listed what you’re after here, head over and check out their selection.

Subaru WRX/WRX STi

We’ve had several requests for recommendations for strut bar recommendations from Subaru WRX STi enthusiasts, so we’ve updated the guide to include this offering from PERRIN.

PERRIN Performance will undoubtedly be a name that Subaru owners are familiar with, and their strut bars are up there with the best.

With a wide variety of colors available, including Black, Red, Neon Yellow, and Hyper Teal, there’s something for everyone in their selection, whether you’re looking for a subtle or stand-ut look under your hood.

Conclusion

We hope that we’ve explored every single avenue imaginable when considering whether a strut bar upgrade is going to be the ideal choice for your build.

For some, it’s a no-brainer, as the benefits of the looks under the hood are more than enough to keep them satisfied.

1jz engine bay single turbo

The experienced track day or professional drivers out there are likely to be considering whether a front or rear setup will be best for their needs, along with the sway bars to match.

We certainly wouldn’t be considering strut bars as one of our first mods. We’d look at getting the essential upgrades purchased first, such as tires, wheels, suspension upgrades, and intake and exhaust mods to get the car breathing more efficiently.

Each of these is more than likely to provide far more benefit initially and then the strut bars, and perhaps sway bars, can become an additional consideration when it comes to fine-tuning the handling further down the line.

So, there we have it! We hope that we’ve covered everything you could want to know about Strut Bars in this guide.

Aftermarket racing seats are one of the most essential upgrades that anyone looking to enhance their car should consider.

Whether you’re simply looking to improve the look of the interior on your daily driver or push yourself to the limits on the track, the huge selection of aftermarket seats out there has the perfect answer to your needs.

We’ve found that one of the biggest mistakes that first-time drifters make is not upgrading their seats before attending their first drift day, insisting that the stock seats will be fine ‘for now’.

After a few sketchy corners which eventually end up with an awkward situation as they end up sharing the passenger seat with their buddy, they’ll then find themselves on the interwebs looking for the ideal solution to ensure that their next experience is a far less embarrassing one. Sound familiar? (C’mon, at least almost?!)

If so, we’ve created this guide just for you!

As with everything, with popularity comes can sometimes corner-cutting. We’re talking about saving those precious bucks to cop yourself some of the freshest new “Fride” designs, straight outta China.

Fake seats have become a huge problem in the aftermarket tuning scene, with owners wanting the best look at the cheapest price.

We can understand the appeal of this, especially when you’re trying your best on a budget, but seats are an essential part of car safety, and we’ve seen some of these ‘replica’ seats fold and break terrifyingly easily. For that reason, we highly recommend avoiding fake/replica or branded ‘style’ seats at all costs.

We would ONLY ever buy racing seats from reputable companies, as there are some clever misleading brands out there that have zero concern for your safety.

What are the benefits of aftermarket racing seats?

Alongside the additional support they offer when pushing your car harder than a grocery-shopping Grandma, one of the best benefits of racing seats is the ability to mount them where you’d like.

For those of you that are particularly tall for example, this can be an added bonus. You can mount the rails further back, and also get low rails to ensure maximum head clearance, which you’ll undoubtedly need if you plan on wearing a helmet.

Be warned that some of the cheaper, generic ‘universal’ rails often sit far higher than the stock seats, which can make for an awful driving position and lose that essential headroom that you could’ve gained with low rails. This is always worth checking.

One of many other benefits is the huge range of aftermarket seats that are available, which will undoubtedly provide you with exactly what you’re looking for. Whether you’re looking for a funky color or design or think that head support will be essential as an example, there’s always going to be a seat out there to suit your needs.

How to install racing seats

You’ll need to get yourself an ideal pair of rails for a daily, road-legal car. If you’re going for a full cage build on your track-specific car, you may want to consider how well mounts fit. Alternatively, some owners opt for mounting the seats to the cage or frame depending on the build. If you’re intending to compete, ensure that you’re familiar with the specific competition rules and regulations with regards to seat mounting.

Should I opt for an adjustable (reclining) seat, or a fixed back?

This all depends on what you’re intending to use the car for. Adjustable reclining seats are obviously the far more convenient choice, especially if your car is daily driven, or if you often have passengers in the back. Adjustable seats are often an ideal choice for beginners that are new to drifting and still wanting to use their car daily.

On the flip side, if you’re frequently hitting up the track and throwing down some pretty risky lines, you’re going to want to opt for a fixed back seat. These will provide you with far more support and safety should things not go entirely according to plan.

As much as we hope this never happens, it’s always best to be prepared when pushing your car to the limit.

How to install a racing harness in stock seats

One of the main reasons that we opt for aftermarket seats is that they are designed to work perfectly with your racing harnesses.

Fitting harnesses to stock OEM seats can be extremely dangerous, and although you think it might look cool, it’s likely to cause more harm than good in the event of an accident.

For those of you that are installing racing harnesses to your aftermarket seats, you’ll want to think about which harnesses you intend to run before making your seat purchase to ensure they’ll fit correctly.

Where to buy racing seats

Since they’re a hugely popular upgrade, there are many places to buy racing seats online. Given the number of fakes out there, we always recommend that you use a well-known, reputable company rather than what looks like a bargain eBay special.

We personally recommend Enjuku Racing and Amazon. Not only do they have impressive prices, but we’ve had fantastic customer service from them when any issues have arisen.

How do I choose the right seat size?

Always make sure that you check the sizing of the seat you are looking to buy. If you’re unsure, then contact the manufacturer or the company you’re intending to make your purchase from.

Some seats are on the tighter side, so even if you’ve eyed up one too many cakes that week then you may it may be worth considering an XL seat.

What’s in this guide?

We’ve created this to help you find the perfect racing seat choice for your car. Whether you’re simply looking to improve the looks or mount a seat in your competition-spec drift car, we’ve covered it all in this guide.

Bride Gias II

bride gias ii

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Value for money: ????
  • Purchase link: Discontinued

Updated March 25th 2021: Discontinued. We recommend taking a look at the latest seats in the Bride range, such as the Bride Euroster.

Our comment: JDM seat manufacturer Bride is undoubtedly one of the most sought after brands when it comes to aftermarket seats, and it’s easy to see why.

Not only do they look incredible, but they’re also extremely lightweight and comfortable. Their Gias II model will be the perfect choice for daily driving or occasional track use. With deep sides to hold you snug in the seat, you won’t be going anywhere if you opt for these.

If you’re looking for a lower alternative to these seats, you’ll want to check out the Stradia II later-on in our guide.

Although they’re one of the most expensive seats out there, the quality is up there with the very best and are made with carbon-reinforced polymer for additional strength and weight savings. If these are out of your budget, then keep your eyes peeled for their cheaper fixed-back alternatives later on in our guide.

Manufacturer description:By adopting a super monocoque shell structure and an all-aluminum frame, GIAS series is a sporty reclining sports seat which realizes both lightweight and rigidity. The design deeply envelops the driver and realizes high holdability.

Corbeau A4

corbeau a4

Our comment: Corbeau enters our list with their extremely popular A4 model, which is one of the biggest bargains in our list.

Corbeau has taken an unusual approach by selling their seats in pairs, so make sure you consider that when you’re comparing prices to see which suits you best.

Built to last, these seats feature protection in areas that are frequently worn away on seats. The ‘Regular’ model will be best suited for up to 36-inch waists, and the wide model will be better suited for up to 40-inch.

A fantastically priced all-rounder and best suited for daily or occasional track days, but we wouldn’t recommend them for frequent track use.

There are a variety of colors, sizes, and materials to choose from within the listing to ensure that suit these perfectly to your needs.

Manufacturer description:The A4 has been a favorite for years because of its incredible price and quality. When it comes to reclining race seats, the A4 is the best bang for your buck.

Whether on the street, the track, or off-road, the A4 racing seat will enhance your overall driving experience. The A4 has top of the line injection molded foam and high wear patches are strategically placed to protect your seat from abuse in the high wear areas. The A4 is harness capable and an anti-submarine slot can be added to accommodate a 5 or 6 point harness belt.

Sparco R333

sparco r333

Our comment: Another huge brand in the racing seat world are Sparco, and their latest product to the market is certainly a looker!

Combining great looks with comfort, quality, practicality, and durability, we expect this to become an extremely popular seat.

These will be a mid-priced choice and a great option if you’re looking to run the stock seatbelt or opting for a 3 or 4-point harness set-up.

A fantastically priced all-rounder and best suited for daily or occasional track days. There’s a decent amount of bolster support to hold you in place if you do decide to do a skid, but we wouldn’t recommend them for frequent track use.

Manufacturer description:The Sparco R333 features a quality finish with the highest standards of upholstery for an excellent feel and durability. The seat R333 contains deep bolster support, ideal for fast road or track days and includes a 2-way tilt/recline mechanism for optimum driving positioning and can be used with standard seat belt or racing harnesses.

Bride Stradia II

bride stradia ii

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Value for money: ????
  • Purchase link: Discontinued

Updated March 25th 2021: Discontinued. We recommend taking a look at the latest seats in the Bride range, the Bride Euroster.

Our comment: You probably noticed our Gias II that we reviewed at the beginning of the article, and you’re wondering how these compare.

As previously mentioned, the main difference between the two is the low-seated position that the Stradia has to offer, featuring a shallower thigh area. This can make it the perfect choice if you’re taller, or prefer a lower-seated driving position. There is also slightly less bolster support on the Stradia, but this will make it much more convenient for daily use.

There’s no question that Bride is one of the best companies out there, with the most stunning lightweight carbon fiber reinforced, comfortable seats, but they do come at a price. You’ll undoubtedly earn yourself a heap of JDM scene points at the local meet, though!

As always, Bride has a tonne of variety on offer, so make sure you view their full Stradia II range here.

Manufacturer description:STRADIA series’s shape features a lower knee support section compared to GIAS to enable easier boarding and exiting. The backrest deeply envelops the driver the same as GIAS, maintaining the high holdability. Because it utilizes a super monocoque shell structure and an aluminum frame, it achieves both lightweight and high rigidity. This model is perfect for those who do not want to sacrifice holdability but are also concerned about ease of boarding/exiting.

With the STRADIA, the backrest has an enveloping form that enables high holdability, but the height of the thigh part is just enough to prioritize ease of boarding/exiting while maintaining holdability. This makes for a reclining sports seat which achieves both a suitable holdability and ease of use. In addition, wide-size is available for part of STRADIA lineup.

Mugen MS-Z

mugen ms-z

Our comment: We can almost hear the complaints from here! Yes, that’s right – Mugen. Honda fanboys, rejoice!

We considered leaving these off of our list for this reason, but since they’re one of the highest regarded seats out there, it’d be ridiculous not to.

If you can look past the branding, these are one of the strongest competitors on our list. Sure, they’re not cheap, but they’re one of the best all-rounders out there.

This semi-bucket design provides almost the same amount of support as a bucket seat with additional comfort but also enables the convenience of the reclining features which makes it a strong rival for the Gias II.

Manufacturer description:Semi bucket seat featuring high driver-support performance, with fatigue reduction effect, and easy-access integrated in harmony within the design. When developing a semi bucket seat two contradictory requirements need to be addressed - that of ergonomic driver support while at the same time providing driver comfort, including easy-access.

By drawing on the experience and technologies acquired through many years of top level motorsports and parts sales activities MUGEN has designed MS-Z to satisfy both requirements. MS-Z will reduce driver fatigue and improve your driving.

Buddy Club Racing Spec

buddy club racing spec

Our comment: Buddy Club’s Racing Spec Sport seat is the latest adjustable racing seat from the well-known tuning company.

This seat has been developed with the P1-limited and Racing Spec Bucket Seat designs in mind, to fill Buddy Club’s gap in the reclining seat market.

A very comfortable seat, but it’s clearly designed with daily driving in mind rather than track days. It’ll undoubtedly be a good upgrade over your stock seats, but we feel there are better choices on our list for the price.

Manufacturer description:The seat can use for different driving conditions and protect the driver comprehensively. The perfect design and technology we use on the precision-adjustable mechanism can assure proper ergonomics and best performance. The horizontal stripes design in the center is not only provided the optimal driving comfort but also allow the driver to feel cooler.

That concludes our Best Reclining Racing Seats selection. Now let’s take a look at our favorite Fixed-Back Racing Seats

Seibon Carbon Kevlar Type-FC

seibon type fc

Our comment: Carbon fiber wizards Seibon has launched a stunning carbon kevlar seat to the market with their Type-FC, which could quite possibly be the most insane looking seat in our list!

These hand-crafted carbon seats will undoubtedly attract a fair amount of attention, and it’s easy to see why!

As you can imagine, being carbon fiber, it’s extremely strong and lightweight. Its design allows for the ultimate bolster support to prevent unnecessary body movement even when you’re pushing the car hard.

These seats were designed for racing use and allow for a multi-point harness to be fitted. An exceptional product which is undoubtedly a contender for our favorite seat on the market right now.

If the red color doesn’t suit your personal preference, then they are also available in black.

Manufacturer description:Creating performance-oriented products that help shed unnecessary weight without sacrificing style is Seibon’s specialty. This Seibon Carbon Kevlar Bucket Racing Seat Type FC is the perfect answer to enhance and maintain that superior look of carbon fiber to your car. The supportive shape will keep you in an upright driving position so you can stay in control during high performance driving.

Updated June 1st 2021: Product discontinued. We recommend taking a look at the latest seats in the Bride range, the Bride Euroster.

Our comment: Thankfully, the fixed-back Bride seats come at a far more affordable price-point, especially for the FRP models which are extremely reasonably priced!

You’re probably starting to understand that we’re pretty big fans of Bride seats, but we’re certainly not alone in our thinking!

These fixed-back seats are still extremely comfortable, but also far more suited for motorsport use than the reclining alternatives.

Corbeau Forza

corbeau forza

Our comment: They may not be the prettiest seats out there, but Corbeau are targeting a specific market with their ‘competition seat with a price tag for the weekend racer’ perspective in mind.

If you’re looking for a fixed-back bargain, racing seats certainly don’t come much cheaper than these!

With five slots for your race harness and integrated shoulder support, they’re undoubtedly a budget winner.

If you want something a little different, these are also available in red. Their regular sizing is ideal for 36 to 38-inch waists, and the wide version is ideal for up to 44-inches.

Our comment: The Buddy Club P-1 has been developed through professional motorsport to create a high-performance seat for road use.

This could be the ideal choice for the more frequently-tracked daily driver, where a fixed-back is ideal yet it’s still comfortable enough for daily use.

Weighing in at just 11lbs with its FRP construction, it’s also extremely lightweight and features a twill fabric to ensure extended lifespan and grip to ensure minimal movement when driving.

Bride Vios III

bride vios iii

  • Manufacturer: Bride
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Value for money: ?????
  • Purchase link: Discontinued

Updated 1st June 2021: Discontinued. We recommend taking a look at the latest seats in the Bride range, the Bride Euroster.

Our comment: Similarly to their reclining options, Bride offers a typical fixed-back seat in the Zeta above, where the Vios is the lower seating position alternative, with slightly smaller bolsters to allow improved ease of access.

This is once again a bargain price for Bride seats, particularly for the FRP model, but as always, Bride offers a wide variety of colors and materials in the Vios range, which you can take a look at here.

The Vios is the ultimate choice for those of you looking for additional head clearance or a lower seating position.

Manufacturer description:Our VIOS line-up includes a total of 5 seats: VIOS III standard model. the premium “Japan” model which uses high-class faux-suede for its surface material. the basic SPORT-C model. the REIMS model featuring a full cover extending to the back surface and a one-point accent color. and TYPE-R with a high holdability in its thigh section. It is an active fixed bucket seat which can meet a variety of customers’ needs from sports-oriented to luxury-oriented and fashion-oriented.

Because VIOS utilizes BRIDE’s patented Low-Max System technology, it enables a low position even in a tight seat space. Even if offsets between the steering and seat centers occur, with the Lomax System it is possible to set the offset to zero*. (In some cases certain models may not reach zero).

Sparco Evo II

sparco evo ii

  • Manufacturer: Sparco
  • Fitment: Universal
  • Value for money: ????
  • Purchase link: Discontinued

Updated June 1st 2021: Product discontinued. We recommend taking a look at the latest seats in the Sparco range, such as the Sparco EVO L QRT.

Our comment: Sparco’s Evo II US seat has undoubtedly been one of the most popular aftermarket choices over the years, and this US model is the larger-sized variation after many American owners found the original version too narrow.

This ultra-light fiberglass composite choice may be priced at the higher end of the market but its popularity proves that it’s worth paying out for, combining its impressive weight with superior comfort for a fixed-back seat.

Sparco designed this seat with extensive input from some of the finest racing drivers. It’s FIA approved and also HANS device compatible. If you’re considering frequent track action, the Evo II is certainly worth considering.

Manufacturer description:Sparco’s EVO II US Racing Seat offer racing drivers both quality and value you can only expect from the Sparco Evo seat line. Features includes a unique shell shape and fiberglass construction that increases rigidity without adding excess weight. The EVO US II Racing Seat offers re-engineered seat proportions, which provide greater ergonomics.

This results in a seat that is both taller and slightly wider than the regular Evo and Evo II seat, making it perfect for taller/larger drivers. The seat belt slots featured on the EVO II US Racing Seat are also repositioned to sit more level with the driver’s shoulders. The Evo II US Racing seat can also accommodate a Hans device for even more added safety.

NRG FRP-310

nrg frp 310

Our comment: Well known for their extremely reasonable price tags, NRG has released their fixed-back bucket seats to the market.

These seats may well be a worthwhile consideration for your budget track build, but there are certainly better options out there if you’re willing to lay down a little extra cash.

We’ve heard reports of the fiberglass being of low quality, and also some issues with the mounting holes. We hope that NRG will listen to the feedback and improve this over time.

They’re certainly not the perfect choice, but given their insanely cheap price tag, we wanted to offer a cheaper alternative in our list. This model is the medium-sized option, if you’re looking for a larger size, you’ll want to head over to the NRG FRP-300.

Manufacturer description:NRG Innovations racing seats are designed with the best of comfort and style to improve the look and performance in any vehicle.

Great lumbar support and holding feel as opposed to the stock seats. NRG seats are designed differently to accommodate different harness styles.

Sparco Pro 2000

Our comment: The Sparco Pro 2000 is certainly no newcomer to the game, but has achieved huge popularity across the world.

These are a superb choice if you’re not bothered about head support. They are FIA homologated and also suitable for use with a HANS device, making them a solid contender for race use.

At just 7.7kg, they’re also extremely lightweight and feature additional back support for added comfort. An excellent all-rounder.

Manufacturer description:The Sparco Pro 2000 is our most popular competition seat. It combines comfort and ergonomics with safety and performance. The non-slip fabric on the shoulder and cushion area and two lumbar support pads improve cockpit comfort.

Made from a light fiberglass composite shell and wrapped in a fire retardant fabric, the Sparco Pro 2000 features a seat design that cradles the body for greater performance. The Sparco Pro 2000 is FIA approved.

TAKATA Race Pro LE

best racing seats

The Pro LE seats are known for being one of the comfiest seats out there and frequently comes highly recommended from those that have opted for it as their seat of choice.

Bride Xero

bride xero cs rs vs jdm frp carbon aramid black best racing seats

Our comment: Bride’s brand new Xero range introduces its exciting new fixed bucket seat offerings to the market.

This exciting new range from the JDM racing seat legends offers some of the most impressive, high-spec seats on the market with fresh designs.

There are three variants within the range, which can make things a little confusing if you’re wondering which is best suited for your needs.

First up, there’s the ‘VS’ model. Those who used the tighter, slim-fit designs that BRIDE is well-known for will be pleased to see that they still offer their usual narrow fitments.

However, since we’re not all super-thin, they’ve also released the ‘CS’ model, the medium-sized option in the range. With this, you’ll get a wider seat, along with longer head containment bolsters.

Finally, the ‘RS’ model, the widest in the range, offering an even broader width along with the longer head containment bolsters.

All three models feature BRIDE’s ‘Low Max’ technology for the ultimate fitment.

With the cheaper FRP and premium, lightweight Super Aramid Black Carbon materials to choose from, along with numerous designs with each model, there’s something for everyone with this exciting new range.

If you’re looking for the ultimate JDM racing seats for drifting, track racing, or even for ultimate support in your weekend canyon carver, look no further!

Boost Controller Introduction & FAQ

If you’re fortunate enough to have a turbocharged engine, you already have a factory boost controller fitted to your ride.

However, when it comes to tuning, upping the boost and getting the most out of what your turbocharger has to offer will be one of the most beneficial, cost-effective, and convenient ways to unleash your potential power gains.

At the same time, we don’t want to crank the boost up as high as possible, as we can guarantee your turbo and potentially your engine will soon become a ticking time bomb.

For that reason, we use an aftermarket boost controller to provide a specific amount of boost to the engine so that you can enjoy the power gains without needing to worry about the possible fatal consequences.

What does a boost controller do?

The role of a boost controller is to provide adjustable quantities of boost that can reach the turbocharger.

If you were to install a turbo to your engine without any restrictions, then it would most likely boost until the point of no return.

For that reason, you have a wastegate that limits the amount of boost provided to the turbocharger, feeding it the desired quantities when necessary.

A wastegate is typically found in the exhaust housing of your turbocharger, and this allows a controlled quantity of exhaust gases to bypass the turbine, limiting the boost.

nissan silvia 200sx jdm drift drift car s14 240sx

You also have a wastegate actuator, which is typically a component mounted to your turbocharger that controls the opening and closing of the wastegate.

As boost pressure is delivered to the actuator via a silicone hose from the compressor outlet, this forms a control loop.

With the pressure rising, the actuator controls the progression of boost provided to the turbocharger via the wastegate.

nissan 240sx s13 interior

If you opt for a boost controller, this controls the amount of pressure reaching the wastegate in the first place.

With a boost controller, you’re able to control the boost level produced in the intake manifold by adjusting the air pressure provided to the wastegate actuator.

There are several ways of controlling boost, from a simple manual control valve housed in the engine bay to a fully adjustable in-car digital display, allowing various setups to be selected or adjusted from the comfort of the driver seat.

Manual vs electronic boost controller – What’s best?

If you’re not already aware, then you’ll soon see in our guide that there are both manual and electronic boost controllers.

Pros of a manual boost controller

When it comes to simplicity, it doesn’t get much simpler than a manual boost controller.

You would fit your manual boost controller into the engine bay and use an external in-car boost gauge to achieve the desired boost levels. However, some recent offerings in this guide will also allow for in-car adjustment.

Think of these as a set-and-forget solution, where you choose the boost level you wish to achieve, and close the hood and enjoy your newfound power.

Cons of a manual boost controller

As convenient as manual boost controllers are, they’re often a little too simple and limiting for those looking to get the most out of their setup.

If you’re looking to adjust your boost settings in-car, then an electronic boost controller provides far more features and flexibility on the go.

Installing a manual boost controller

When it comes to manual/mechanical boost controller installation, this is a relatively easy task, as shown in the following video:

Pros of an electronic boost controller

When it comes to the electronic/digital boost controller offerings, it’s an entirely different ballgame.

With the ability to add numerous boost settings, you’re able to tweak and customize your setup from the comfort and convenience of the driver seat.

Most EBC’s feature high and low settings, which allow for low boost operation when cruising around town, with the high boost option when it’s time to shred the tires.

interior purple steering wheel

Typically, an EBC will allow for complete customization of the boost curve by allowing you to adjust the spooling rate, maximum pressure, and reaction time of the controller.

Many of the various models of electronic boost controllers on the market also come with a vast array of additional features and customizations, so it’s worth considering which one best suits your specific needs.

Cons of an electronic boost controller

When it comes to installing an electronic boost controller, it’s substantially different from the manual alternative.

Not only is installation complicated and will require some technical knowledge, but if you’re unsure of how to set up the boost controller, you run the risk of damaging your turbocharger or engine.

For that reason, we recommend professional installation by a tuner to ensure maximum power gains and durability.

Installing an electronic boost controller

For those looking to install their electronic boost controller, here’s a DIY video on a Nissan Silvia S15.

What Are The Best Boost Controllers?

We hope you now understand how a boost controller works and ready to decide whether a manual or electronic controller will be better suited for your needs.

Let’s take a look at the best boost controllers on the market.

AEM Tru Boost Gauge/Controller Kit

aem tru boost gauge kit

Our comment: If you don’t want to take up too much space on your interior with a separate boost gauge and boost controller, this two-in-one solution could be the perfect solution.

Using the simple two-button design, you’re able to configure all of the settings that you’d typically find within a separate boost gauge within this handy unit.

As far as electronic boost gauges go, installation doesn’t get much simpler than this, and you won’t have to worry about installing the individual units.

With this kit, you’ll also get a black or silver surrounding bezel to customize the gauge to match your interior.

Manufacturer description:This brand new unit from AEM is a boost gauge with built-in boost controller. No longer will you have to use two seperate units to monitor and adjust boost.

Much like their popular Uego Wideband gauge, this Tru Boost gauge uses LED’s and digital readouts to help you monitor boost levels and uses 2 buttons on the front of the gauge to set boost levels and adjust the controller options.

Features:

  • Complete stand-alone boost controller gauge

Our comment: This offering from Autometer comes with an insane amount of features for the money, making it an ideal option for those on a budget.

Much like the premium AEM offering above, this operates as both a boost controller and a boost gauge.

With just about every feature found in the premium offerings, this is perfect for those who aren’t too worried about stylish designs and brand names.

Autometer provides good products for a fantastic price, and this is no exception.

BluVantage Bluetooth Boost Controller

bluevantage bluetooth universal

Our comment: We’ve heard mixed reviews on the unique offering from BluVantage, which integrates Bluetooth technology for the first time.

Although we love the concept, it’s let down by somewhat buggy programming, and it’s something we’d personally prefer not to mess around with too much.

Since the old-school tried-and-tested boost controller methods work exceptionally well, modern technology can become extremely frustrating when it doesn’t work as intended.

Overall, a great concept and something that’ll certainly create a talking point at meets.

Would it be our personal choice? Unfortunately not.

With that said, it does have a reasonable price tag and means you won’t need to wire anything into the car or have any additional devices on your interior other than your smartphone.

Manufacturer description:BluVantage Technologies introduces the worlds first standalone bluetooth boost controller.

Featuring smartphone connection to control all your boost parameters using the BluVantage BluBoost app. With bluetooth 4.2 technology the BluBoost app can also double as a real time display boost gauge with absolutely no lag.

Greddy Profec OLED Boost Controller

greddy profec oled

Our comment: This offering from JDM legends Greddy is one of the most popular choices on the market, and its funky design combined with fantastic features make it our favorite product in this guide.

Featuring a large OLED display, this boost controller can be mounted 180 degrees depending on where you intend to fit it in your interior.

Combining the new 300kPa (43.5psi) integrated pressure sensor, the more compact solenoid valve, and the faster ECU processor provide quicker response and the most stable boost curves yet.

If you’re after the ultimate boost controller with added JDM goodness, look no further!

Manufacturer description:The new PRofec is compact, powerful and easy to use. The large OLED Display, with the simple two-button / rotary-dial control, make for intuitive operation.

HKS EVC-S Electronic Boost Controller

hks evc s electronic

Our comment: For those interested in JDM goodness that don’t want to splash quite as much cash as the Greddy option above, HKS offers a more compact alternative to the market.

Suppose you’re after a more straightforward, compact unit that can still achieve most features of the most expensive alternatives from a premium brand. In that case, this could be an ideal option.

Although we’re not blown away by it, it’s still a fantastic product, but we would be spending a little extra on the Greddy above.

Manufacturer description:By including the most popular features of the EVC, EVC-S offers performance enthusiasts an affordable solution to accurate electronic turbo boost control.

The EVC-S features a solenoid valve specifically designed to accurately control boost pressure up to 250kPa or 36 PSI, 2 boost level settings as well as settings for offset and boost response.

  • Factory boost function when power is off

  • Diagnosis function for malfunction of boost sensor, solenoid valve or wiring connection

Go Fast Bits G-Force II Electronic Boost Controller

go fast bits g force ii electronic

Our comment: Go Fast Bits have been making a name for themselves on the tuning scene in recent years, and this touch-screen boost controller is another excellent product.

With an impressive six boost presets, all of which are individually programmable, this is ideal for those that like to refine their setups to perfection.

Including every feature that we’d expect to see and more, you’re even able to choose from six colors within the menu for the perfect finishing touch to your interior.

There’s no question that this unit is excellent value for money and one that we’d undoubtedly consider running in our cars.

Manufacturer description:Take control of the boost level in your turbo car with a GFB G-Force II boost controller, one of the simplest and most cost effective power increases available.

TurboSmart In Cabin Boost Controller

turbosmart in cabin

Our comment: TurboSmart brings the first manual boost controller to our list, with a unique offering that allows you to use a mechanical/manual boost controller from the driver seat.

Since this is a fraction of the price of the majority of the more expensive electronic options, this compact alternative could pose a real temptation.

Given that manual boost controllers are more of a set-and-forget type device, we wouldn’t expect to carry out many adjustments after initial setup, but this would undoubtedly make that process more convenient.

Manufacturer description:The Turbosmart Gated Boost Control Valve range is one of the best dollar for horsepower upgrades that you can make to your turbocharged petrol or diesel engine vehicle.

All Turbosmart Gated Boost Controllers feature our exclusive Gate feature which minimizes wastegate creep and can improve turbo response by up to 800 rpm earlier in the rev range - this means that you can increase the performance and response from your engine without even raising the maximum boost level.

TurboSmart e-Boost2 Electronic Boost Gauge/Controller

turbosmart e boost2 electronic gauge

Our comment: Although the e-Boost2 is the most expensive product on our guide, those running the likes of nitrous or methanol injection will want to make this a contender since it’s the only option in our guide capable of controlling these from the device.

If you’re simply looking for a boost controller with maximum features, we feel that several options will provide better bang-for-your-buck, such as the Greddy and AEM options.

Despite this, the ability to control the likes of methanol injection will undoubtedly be helpful to some, and it has a vast array of additional features to consider.

Manufacturer description:The Turbosmart e-Boost2 is an electronic boost controller / gauge with tons of features to maximize performance!

Adjust gate pressure, sensitivity, and your target set point for maximum responsiveness. It’s also a lot more than just a boost controller; it can also control water spray, methanol or nitrous injection, manage shift/warning lights and read/monitor RPM.

  • Gate Pressure: eliminates wastegate creep
  • Overboost Shutdown: provides added protection for your engine
  • Auto Dimming: with backlit buttons for hassle free navigation
  • Gear-based Mapping: set a different boost for each gear! (Microswitch available seperately)

TurboSmart GBCV Boost-Tee Black

turbosmart gbcv boost tee black

Our comment: TurboSmart’s cheapest offering is the plain and straightforward set-and-forget manual boost controller that will undoubtedly do a fantastic job at carrying out its essential tasks.

While this unit will remain in your engine bay, the in-cabin option above provides the same thing with the ability to adjust the boost from the driver seat, which you may also wish to consider.

If you’re looking for no-frills boost adjustment at a reasonable price, you really can’t go wrong here.

Manufacturer description:Smaller and lighter than other Manual Boost Controllers on the market. Set your boost and forget it. Boost adjustable from under the hood with an accurate, proven Detent System. Easy to install and adjust.

All Turbosmart Gated Boost Controllers feature our exclusive Gate feature which minimizes wastegate creep and can improve turbo response by up to 800 rpm earlier in the rev range - this means that you can increase the performance and response from your engine without even raising the maximum boost level.

Vibrant Performance Manual Boost Controller

vibrant performance black manual

Our comment: Offering a near-identical offering to the TurboSmart Boost-Tee above, this Vibrant Performance alternative makes another excellent choice for those looking for the more straightforward approach to tuning.

There’s barely anything to differentiate between the two products, including the price.

They’re both excellent value, and both brands carry a fantastic reputation. It could simply boil down to which item you prefer the look of.

Features:

  • T6061 Billet Aluminum with black anodized finish for corrosion protection
  • Removable fittings for servicing and reference line upgrades
  • Comes with low pressure check valve for use on MAF equipped cars to prevent stalling at idle
  • Large premium grade brass adjustment knob to increase or decrease boost pressure accurately

Our Premium Boost Controller Choice

While it’s likely to be overkill for most setups, those of you that are considering going down the water spray or methanol/nitrous injection route will undoubtedly want to consider this option.

Given these impressive features, it makes it the most feature-rich boost controller in our guide, which is why we felt it deserved the premium award.

If you’re looking to keep things simple with your turbocharged setup and don’t intend to go down the water/methanol/nitrous route, there are plenty of cheaper alternatives that’ll be more than enough for your needs.

Introduction & Ceramic Coating FAQ

Whether you’ve purchased yourself a new car with immaculate paintwork that you’re looking to protect or simply wanting to keep your ride in tip-top condition, you’ll want to check out ceramic coating.

While a ceramic coating isn’t going to magically make your drift missile look like it’s just rolled out of the showroom, it can still be an ideal consideration even for cars that aren’t in the best of condition.

With benefits such as ease of cleaning and preventing contaminants, including burnt rubber for drifters, to stick to the paint – there are plenty of advantages from the various products on the market.

What Is Ceramic Coating?

Despite being one of the most recent products to enter the detailing and car care industry, ceramic coatings have revolutionized the game.

Providing a transparent liquid polymer layer that chemically bonds to the vehicle’s paintwork, providing an additional layer of protection.

Because of this, ceramic coating can provide the ultimate durability and protection, way beyond the capabilities of traditional waxes and sealants.

How Long Does Ceramic Coating Last?

The durability of ceramic coating can vary vastly.

While some of the cheaper, more convenient wipe-on-wipe-off sprays may only provide a few months of durability, they may take a matter of minutes to apply.

On the other hand, if you’re willing to put in the time and effort preparing and correctly applying the more expensive ceramic coatings to your paint, then some of the products in our guides are capable of providing complete protection for several years.

While some coatings may last for several years, they’re typically the most expensive options and often the most challenging to apply.

If you’re frequently clocking up huge mileage in your daily driver, then it may be worth spending the extra money on the longest-lasting coatings since it’ll often be battling the elements.

On the flip-side, if your car is more of a garage queen, easily applied, cheaper ceramic coatings may last way beyond the manufacturer’s guidelines. Therefore, you’ll often be able to get away with a reasonably priced product with the most convenient application.

Ceramic Coating Cost

Prices for ceramic coating and its application can also vary hugely.

While applying a reasonably-priced, convenient ceramic spray every few months may work for some owners, others will want the ultimate protection, which comes at a much higher cost.

Not only is the product price the only consideration, but applying some of the high-end, premium products can also be far trickier than the traditional waxes you’ve likely been using over the years.

For this reason, many owners will seek professional application of their ceramic coating, which, as you may expect, bumps up the price significantly.

The cost of a ceramic coating application can vary massively.

While some of you may have convenient buddies willing to do it on the side, others may wish to take it to the best detailer in their area.

yellow datsun 240z street driven tours finale

When it comes to pricing, it’s likely to depend on the current condition of your paintwork.

Many of you may opt to have thorough decontamination and correction work carried out before locking in the immaculate finish for several years with the ceramic coating, which could potentially end up costing thousands in labor costs, depending on the size of the vehicle.

Since most owners aren’t looking to spend thousands on protection, it’s often a better idea to opt for the DIY method.

With this, you’ll not only learn a lot along the way, but you’ll be able to re-apply the protection a few years down the line without having to spend thousands again.

If you’re like us, you’ll probably wish to apply your ceramic coating yourself and avoid splashing out several thousand bucks every few years.

Ceramic Coating Near Me

If you feel that a professional coating will be the best option, there will be plenty of detailers in your local area ready to take on the job.

Just be prepared for eye-watering prices, especially if bodywork maintenance hasn’t been at the top of your priority list until now!

With a professionally installed ceramic coating, we would expect the most extended durability possible, combined with the ultimate shine and the peace of mind that comes with a warranty.

How To Apply Ceramic Coating (DIY)

If you’re not willing to pay the price for a professional installation, it’s time to consider applying your ceramic coating yourself.

toyota gt86 blue light painting

Some ceramic coatings are trickier to apply than others, so it’s worth doing your research to ensure you’re getting a product that you’re capable of applying in your current scenario.

For instance, if the product requires the use of a garage, but you’ve not got access to one, then you’ll undoubtedly regret ignoring their advice by applying it in blazing sunlight.

Preparation

Before ceramic coating application, you must correctly prepare your vehicle so that the sealant can bond to the paintwork.

Decontamination

Following a thorough two-bucket-method wash, followed by claying, we would use a decontamination product such as an iron fallout remover.

Polishing

We would then polish the paint after removing contaminants, preferably using a machine polisher, to achieve the desired finish that you wish to lock in under your ceramic coating.

Removing oils

After that, you’ll need to remove the oils left behind from the polishing process, typically using an isopropyl alcohol mixture or a specific product, such as CarPro Eraser.

Assuming you’re happy with the finish at this point, your paintwork should be looking immaculate and ready for the ceramic sealant to lock it down.

Application

While this varies hugely between products, a premium ceramic coating would require you to apply a thin, even layer to small areas at a time, typically in a shaded or covered setting.

Any excess product will need to be removed during application, as this could cause ‘high spots,’ which could cause significant problems further down the line.

We recommend using a high-powered torch at various angles to ensure all excess is removed.

Drying/Curing

Following application, most ceramic coatings will need to be left to dry and set. Typically, the longer the longevity of the coating, the stricter the drying process will be.

For some premium products, you’ll need to avoid exposing the coating to moisture for up to 24 hours, which is where you’ll likely need to apply the sealant in a garage to prevent any disasters.

Ceramic Coating Gone Wrong

If the manufacturer’s guidelines aren’t followed correctly, it can become a real headache when rectifying the ceramic coating, especially on premium products with longer-lasting durability.

While it won’t be the end of the world, we can guarantee that you wish you checked the instructions a little more carefully.

But fear not, mistakes happen, and this great video from Adam’s Polishes explains what happens when it doesn’t go entirely to plan:

Maintaining Ceramic Coating

Once you’ve carried out the application process to the manufacturer’s requirements, you’ll want to ensure that the maintenance procedures are followed correctly.

lexus lfa parked white

For some products, you may be advised to clean the car more frequently than others, while some may require a ‘top-up’ on a more regular basis to ensure optimal durability.

Ceramic Wheel Coating

When ceramic coating your vehicle, you can also consider using the leftover product to apply to your wheels.

Wheels are one of the most exposed elements on a car, being constantly hit by surface debris, which is why it’s a great idea to provide additional protection to them.

Not only this, but a ceramic coating will also prevent the build-up of brake dust and make them far easier to clean.

Rather than using harsh chemicals each time, a clean with your usual shampoo and mitt will be more than adequate to keep them in prime condition.

What’s The Best Ceramic Coating?

Time for the big question! While there are several incredible products out there on the market, they’re not going to suit everyone’s needs.

For that reason, we’ve covered some of our favorite products - some that are cheap and convenient to apply but might not last too long.

On the other end of the spectrum, we’ll also provide products that will provide the ultimate durability. However, you’ll need to ensure that you follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to avoid potential disappointment and frustration.

Let’s take a look at our recommended ceramic coating products.

303 Graphene Nano Spray Coating

303 graphene nano spray coating

Our comment: Graphene is the latest “buzzword” in the automotive detailing industry, and 303 has provided one of the most reasonably-priced opportunities to see if it ticks the right boxes for your needs.

Although this won’t be too mind-blowing in the durability department, it can still provide up to a year of protection, despite its ease of simple spray-on, wipe-off application.

When applied correctly, it’ll provide not only outstanding protection but also high levels of gloss.

Overall, this is a fantastic product with a great price tag for those looking for convenient, year-long protection.

Be warned that the current bottles are letting the product down, and we’ve heard many reports of leakage. For that reason, we recommend getting a separate sprayer to avoid disappointment during the application.

Manufacturer description:303 Graphene Nano Spray Coating is a Graphene Oxide based spray coating. It will provide a high level of protection for 12 months. Besides the great protection there are many other benefits of the product! These include reducing the surface temperature, which will reduce the amount of hard water spots you get on your car’s paint.

It also features a high water contact angle, producing substantial hydrophobic properties, that keep the water from sticking to your paint. After application the paint will have enhanced gloss and clarity too. The main differentiation from other types of exterior automotive protection available is the combined durability and protection along with how simple and easy to use the product is. It will bond to surface without prior correction or decontamination, and it is difficult to mess up application.

Adam’s UV Graphene Ceramic Coating Kit

adams uv graphene ceramic coating kit 10h 7 years

Our comment: For those looking for the ultimate ‘set and forget’ ceramic coating, this incredible product from Adam’s will last more than seven years with the correct application.

After success with their traditional ceramic coating above, they’ve gone to the next level for their graphene product, and this kit even provides a UV torch, allowing you to check you’ve applied the product to perfection.

Although five years may be enough for most owners, this unique new product provides an incredible 10H hardness to ensure the ultimate longevity.

With it being a new product, you may wish to wait to see the long-term results, but so far, it’s looking very promising.

Manufacturer description:THE NEXT GENERATION OF PROTECTION FOR YOUR ENTIRE VEHICLE! Adam’s UV Graphene Ceramic Coating is a clear, nanocrystalline coating that protects your vehicle from weather, chemicals, and UV rays while repelling water, dirt and other contaminants. Providing 10H hardness, 7+ years of protection even in the harshest conditions.

ULTRA HIGH GLOSS, DEPTH OF COLOR! The key to the coatings unbeatable “shine” is in the preparation stage. You’ll want to wash, clay, and remove any contaminants from the paint before polishing the paint to perfection. Then using the provided Coating Prep, you can wipe the vehicle down to remove any waxes or sealants left behind! Adam’s graphene coating is even easier to apply providing professional long-lasting results.

Chemical Guys HydroSlick SiO2 Ceramic Coating

chemical guys hydro slick ceramic coating hyperwax

Our comment: Chemical Guys’ HydroSlick is one of the well-known, convenient products on the market.

Several detailers recommended us the HydroSlick SiO2 ceramic coating. Although we were pleased with the initial results, we felt that it fell short of the mark regarding durability.

While Chemical Guys claim up to a year of protection, we found that it was just a few months with heavier, real-world use.

We feel that the name ‘Hyperwax’ title is more fitting than ‘Ceramic Coating,’ and we feel that there are better products on the market with a better price tag to match.

Manufacturer description:Unlike any wax you’ve ever used before: In order to create a product that offers the shine, protection, and durability of a ceramic with the ease of use as a wax, we had to invent a whole new category: A hyper wax.

Hydrophobic water beading: Hydro slick uses ceramic SiO2 nanotechnology to seal the pores of your car’s paint, creating a perfect layer where water behavior becomes highly and excessively active, resulting in rapid water acceleration off any treated surface.

Gtechniq CSL (Crystal Serum Light)

gtechniq crystal serum light csl

Our comment: Many pro detailers swear by Gtechniq’s Crystal Serum Light, and its ease of use combined with stunning gloss levels and long-lasting protection has also made it a popular choice among DIY detailers.

Gtechniq provides some of the most impressive nanotechnology products to the market, and this product is no exception.

Branded as a ‘pro-sumer’ version, this is the user-friendly equivalent of the world-famous Gtechniq Accredited Detailer only Crystal Serum, which is so hard, it can only be removed using 1,500 grit sandpaper!

While this ‘light’ version provides 80% of the results and performance, it can be conveniently machine polished for removal if things don’t go quite to plan.

An incredible product, and if you’re happy to spend a little more than some of the alternatives, you surely won’t be disappointed.

Manufacturer description:Best possible swirl mark and chemical resistance from a prosumer grade product. Provides paint protection with previously un-achievable levels of gloss, durability, scratch and chemical resistance.

Compared to standard ceramic coatings, Crystal Serum forms a relatively thick combined film which greatly reduces surface hazing and improves gloss. Considered the thickest, most durable true ceramic coating in the industry.

GYEON Quartz Q² Syncro

gyeon quartz q2 syncro kit

Our comment: With this three-step solution from Gyeon, you’ll get a comprehensive kit for all of your ceramic coating needs.

Firstly, the Q² MOHS acts as a base coat, forming two layers, prepping the surface for the topcoat.

After this, you’ll then apply Q² SKIN, the topcoat, which provides excellent gloss and clarity to the coating, and a highly repellent surface.

Finally, Q² Cure is the final coat that cures and enhances the previous two, allowing the product to provide two years of protection.

Although it’s not the simplest or the cheapest of the products in our guide, it’s up there with the best when it comes to all-around performance.

Manufacturer description:Q² Syncro is the most advanced widely available coating offered by Gyeon. Its aim is to offer a professional coating experience to all customers outside the Certified Detailer Program. Its multilayer application ends with the application of Q² Skin, an advanced silicone-based topcoat that provides exceptional slickness and unrivaled hydrophobicity.

Q² Syncro offers incredible slickness and repellency. The Q² Mohs base provides hardness and significant durability. Q² Skin is a thick and flexible topcoat that provides great self-cleaning abilities. Outlasts car wax kit, spray wax, car polish, detail spray, ceramic spray coating, wax spray, car spray. The ultimate professional-grade coating in your detail kit.

Migliore Strata High Gloss SiO2 PRO

migliore strata si02 pro

Our comment: We’ve heard of many satisfied owners that swear by the Migliore Strata coating, and many that claim it didn’t live up to expectations.

Made in the USA, Migliore doesn’t make any audacious claims or use any buzzwords in their marketing.

The straight-to-the-point company promises a highly glossy, easy to apply, low-maintenance sealant with up to twelve months of protection.

As always, you’ll need to ensure that proper prep work is carried out to avoid disappointment.

If you’re new to ceramic coating and a little anxious about applying correctly, this may be a decent choice, but we feel there are better alternatives out there for the money.

Manufacturer description:Don’t be fooled by 10H claims, flame resistance, and foreign manufacturers. Strata’s ceramic particles provide UV resistance and extreme water sheeting also helps protect your paint against washed-induced marring.

Made in the USA! Very easy application with a self cleaning effect. Most dirt and debris will not stick in the first place so you may find yourself washing your vehicle less frequently.

Sonax Profiline Ceramic Coating

sonax profiline basecoat glosscoat

Our comment: We’re big fans of the Sonax Profiline range, and this fantastic kit is perfect for anyone new to ceramic coatings and looking for one of the easiest to apply offerings on the market.

This kit provides everything you need to apply the ceramic coating to your car with a two-stage ‘BaseCoat’ and ‘GlossCoat’ method, providing durable 9H ceramic quartz protection, which will provide up to a year of durability.

However, if for the ultimate performance from the coating, you can top it up every six months using Sonax’s Polymer Net Shield, which will provide up to three-year durability.

While this product isn’t a competitor for the top-end, premium coatings on the market, it provides a great introduction to ceramic coatings for those looking to get started.

Manufacturer description:EASY TO APPLY two-stage coating blankets your vehicle’s paint in a flexible shell of ultra high gloss protection.

PROFESSIONAL CERAMIC COATING provides a protective covering on your vehicle’s surface with Nano-Ceramic particles providing a flexible but tough 3D structured high gloss coating.

Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating

turtle wax hybrid solutions spray

Our comment: If you’ve already been researching ceramic coatings, chances are you’ve already stumbled across this product from Turtle Wax as being too good to be true for the price.

Although they’ve not always had the best reputation in the detailing industry, don’t let that put you off, as this product is truly incredible for the price.

Providing insane water repellency and hydrophobic properties thanks to the SiO2 polymers, this incredibly easy to apply product adds incredible shine and lasts for up to a year.

All you need to do is spray the product onto your prepped surface, spread it evenly across the bodywork, and then remove it with a microfiber cloth.

While many may argue it’s not a ‘true’ ceramic coating, we feel it provides almost all of the benefits without the cost or the hassle.

While it won’t suit everyone’s taste, we certainly recommend that anyone looking for a cheap, convenient solution gives this product a try.

Manufacturer description:Super hydrophobic and SiO2 polymers deliver water repelling, water sheeting, and chemical resistant protection that can last up to 12 months.

The ultimate method for long-lasting ceramic protection on your vehicle’s surface. This easy to use product sprays on and wipes off with very little effort while delivering superior shine and protection.
