Introduction

Nissan’s luxury brand, Infiniti, launched the executive four-door Q50 sedan to the market in 2013, providing a modern-day update to the highly-regarded G37.

With aggressive body styling, high-tech electronics, increased safety ratings, and an impressive engine to match, it was a worthy rival to the high-end premium European brands, such as BMW and Mercedes.

Known as the 13th generation Nissan Skyline (V37) on the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market), the Q50 was designed based on the 2009 Infiniti Essence concept car and the 2011 Infiniti M.

Although the launch price was beyond the budget of many aftermarket tuning enthusiasts who admired the luxurious yet sporty design, price drops have made the Q50 far more affordable in recent years.

With many seeing the Q50 as a unique, modern-day alternative to the likes of the Infiniti G35 and G37, it’s unsurprisingly soaring in popularity, particularly within the stance scene.

Featuring the VQ37VHR engine under the hood, which is also found in the sought-after Nissan 370Z, it provides 328 hp from the 3.7-liter V6 and has the potential to achieve over 1,000 hp with a turbocharger upgrade.

Combine this with the VIP-Esque styling of the Q50, which is perfectly suited for slamming and matched with a set of aftermarket rims.

The combination of luxurious aggression and power potential, along with the wide selection of wheels on the market, understandably makes the Q50 a desirable temptation for those looking for something a little different from the likes of the more-common 370Z.

However, not all Q50 models have the VQ37VHR, as there are also hybrid engines, such as the VQ35HR V6 model, based on the Nissan 350Z’s powerplant.

Later models of the Q50 from 2016 onwards, including the ‘Red Sport’ line, also featured 2.0t, 3.0t hybrid engines along with heaps of brand-new additional extras (or gimmicks to drifters, perfect for further weight saving!)

Although these hybrid engines can achieve up to 400 hp in stock form, the tuning potential isn’t as convenient.

With that said, it may present a great opportunity if you’re looking for a daily cruiser, where you’re often pushing out high mileage.

While many looking to go down the stance route will also be considering air suspension, those looking to make the most of the handling potential and drift capabilities of the Q50 will prefer a coilover setup.

So, let’s check out the best coilover kits that are available on the market.

Let’s take a look at our Infiniti Q50 coilover selection

When it comes to finding the perfect kit for your Q50, you’ll need to remember that there are both RWD and AWD models, with several differences between the two, so it’s essential to source the correct kit for your application.

Now that we’ve got that covered and you’ve gained some knowledge of the Infiniti Q50’s history let’s look at the various coilover options for your ride!

BC Racing BR Q50 Coilovers

bc racing br infiniti

Our comment: When it comes to providing value for money, you’re going to struggle to find a better coilover option than BC Racing’s BR kit.

Along with one of the most reasonable price tags on our list, this kit offers 30 levels of adjustment and often outperforms its more expensive rivals both on the road and the track.

If you’re serious about shaving seconds off your lap times, then some of the more expensive, advanced offerings may be ideal, but as an all-rounder, we feel these are hard to beat.

With preset spring rates available, BC Racing also offers the chance to choose custom spring rates for free, or there’s also the option to upgrade to swift springs.

These are incredible all-rounders, with many Q50 owners enjoying the benefits of what they have to offer.

Manufacturer description:BC Racing’s BR Type Coilover is perfect for street driving and occasional road course duty. With easily accessible adjustment knobs for fine tuning your compression/rebound and separately adjustable ride height, having a performance coilover system couldn’t be any easier.

All of our systems come with pillowball mounts to provide the most feedback possible from your suspension and to sharpen your steering response. BC’s available front plates also allow you to get the perfect alignment setup without compromise.

RS-R Sports-i Q50 Coilovers

rsr sports i infiniti

Our comment: RS*R brings this premium offering to the market, which covers just about every model of Q50 to leave the Infiniti showroom.

With a unique approach, RS-R has opted to maintain the luxury appeal by making quality and comfort their top priority with their coilover kits.

While some cheaper coilover kits can sometimes provide a ‘crashy’ ride, the goal here was to provide OEM comfort and quality with the handling and ride height improvements that come with coilovers.

Think of this as the “gentleman’s choice,” if you like, which will be better suited for a daily cruiser than a track-day missile.

Manufacturer description:Spirited weekend track drives do not have to sacrifice daily driving comfort or performance. Designed for the performance enthusiast in mind, the RS-R Sports-I coilover system provides a comfortable ride for everyday use, yet is sufficient enough for those effervescent track days.

Why spend all day at the track dialing in your suspension when you should be on the track enjoying the experience. Damper and camber adjustments should not be a definitive factor, nor should you spend all day adjusting your suspension settings at the track. Drive to the track, on the track and drive home in comfort. Enjoy driving again with the RS-R Sports-I coilovers.

TEIN Street Flex Q50 Coilovers

tein street flex infiniti

  • Manufacturer: TEIN
  • Levels of damping adjustment: 16
  • Construction type: Twin tube
  • Spring rate front: 12kg/mm
  • Spring rate rear: 5kg/mm
  • Fitment: Infiniti Q50 RWD
  • Value for money: ????
  • Purchase link: Infiniti Q50 TEIN Street Flex Coilovers

Our comment: Evolved from the hugely popular ‘Type Flex’ coilovers, this kit is ideal for use on either the circuit or the street.

Featuring the new Advance Needle technology, this allows for far more adjustability of the dampening.

While TEIN has a reputation for being a harsher ride, this new technology provides improved street comfort, which TEIN claims are almost 200% better than the predecessor.

An added appeal with this kit is the optional extra EDFC/EDFC Active compatibility, which will allow you to adjust your dampening settings in-car at the touch of a button.

Another excellent choice for Q50 owners and the EDFC compatibility may make these a more tempting prospect than the BC Racing BR’s for some.

Before you opt for these, we recommend checking out the more recent successor below.

Manufacturer description:The Street Flex damper is the evolution of Tein’s popular Flex coilover. Developed to provide the ultimate balance of comfort and performance for both street driving and circuit use, along with a wide 16 way range of damping force adjustment using their new Advance Needle technology and new damper valving specs, giving you a much more noticeable feel in damping force change and controllability.

The shortened shell case design provides optimum damper stroke at lower than standard vehicle ride height. Full-length adjustability offers separate spring preload and ride height adjustment which is beneficial for optimum performance and corner balancing. Updated internal components and external ZT coatings increase durability and product life. Includes Pillowball Upper Mounts and are compatible with the EDFC and EDFC Active systems.

TEIN Flex Z Q50 Coilovers

tein flex z infiniti

  • Manufacturer: TEIN
  • Levels of damping adjustment: 16
  • Construction type: Twin tube
  • Spring rate front: 12kg/mm
  • Spring rate rear: 5kg/mm
  • Fitment: Infiniti Q50 RWD
  • Value for money: ?????
  • Purchase link: Infiniti Q50 TEIN Flex Z Coilovers

Our comment: TEIN’s Flex Z coilovers are the direct successor to the Street Flex series that we mentioned above, and guess what -they’re even CHEAPER!

It’s not often that a manufacturer improves a product yet also manages to improve the price tag. Still, TEIN has pulled it out of the bag thanks to improved production plant and manufacturing processes.

With separately adjustable ride height and spring preload and 16-stage adjustable dampening, these are still ideal for both track and road users alike.

Just like the Street Flex above, these too are EDFC compatible, which will allow you to adjust your dampening settings in-car at the touch of a button.

Now, you probably feel like this is too good to be true. Surely a JDM legend such as TEIN wouldn’t knock down their prices for no reason?

Well, there is one thing to consider. TEIN has managed to provide these at an incredible price thanks to using a sealed damper, which means that rebuilding is no longer an option should you have any problems further down the line.

So, if your coilovers go wrong, it’s new coilover time.

However, we trust TEIN’s product quality and do not doubt that these would last many years. So, if you’re not planning on keeping the car for decades, then these are likely to be a great buy.

Manufacturer description:Thanks to their oil and gas twin-tube design, Flex Z offers excellent comfort at low speeds on rough roads, whilst providing outstanding performance and accuracy in fast driving – on road and circuit. The ride height and spring preload are adjustable separately, giving full damper stroke at any height. A new oil formulation was used for Flex Z, giving stable performance at all temperatures. Damping is adjustable via 16 stages.

These coilovers come with upper mounts, allowing camber adjustment on front McPherson suspension. Using Japanese manufacturing, TEIN products enjoy a long lifetime and protection against corrosion, dust and temperature change. They also come with a 1 year warranty.

Silver’s NEOMAX Q50 Coilovers

silvers neomax infiniti

  • Manufacturer: Silver’s
  • Levels of damping adjustment: 24
  • Construction type: Monotube
  • Spring rate front: 12kg/mm
  • Spring rate rear: 8kg/mm
  • Fitment: Infiniti Q50 RWD
  • Value for money: ????
  • Purchase link: Infiniti Q50 Silver’s NEOMAX Q50 Coilovers

Our comment: If you liked the sound of the “Gentleman’s choice” RS-R Sports*I kit above, but weren’t so keen on the price tag, then this kit provides a fantastic alternative.

Silver’s NEOMAX range brings a soft and comfortable OEM-style ride with the benefits of improved handling, reduced body roll, and height and dampening adjustability.

If you’re looking to stick with Infiniti’s luxury objective in mind, but you’re not too keen to break the bank in the process, this kit provides a fantastic option.

With this, you’ll get the added benefit of enjoying carving the canyon at the weekend and stopping the family from complaining about the harsh ride during the week!

Manufacturer description:Mono-tube shock design, Increases shock oil capacity as well as displacement over twin tube designs for maximum performance. Adjustable T6 6061 front camber plates on all McPherson style applications.

24 levels of dampening adjustability combined with our high grade shock oil, not only do you feel the click in your fingers, you feel every dampening adjustment in the driver’s seat.

Yellow Speed Racing Dynamic Pro Sport Q50 Coilovers

yellow speed racing dynamic pro sport infiniti

Our comment: One of the newest offerings to the market is the 1-way Dynamic Pro Sport coilover kit from Yellow Speed Racing.

These present another fantastic option for those of you looking for a comfortable daily driver that’s also capable of being thrown around for the occasional track day.

While we’re yet to see any long-term durability results, Yellow Speed Racing is known for providing fantastic quality suspension. While they have an extremely reasonable price tag, we’re confident that they would serve you well.

There are a variety of options available for various models, so these could be worth a try. If you opt for them, let us know how you get on!

Manufacturer description:DYNAMIC PRO SPORT coilovers are designed and developed for all motoring enthusiasts wanting excellent handling without sacrificing comfort. This suspension system features 33-way adjustable dampening settings and full length adjustment to meet every driver’s handling desires.

Pillowball mounts and adjustable camber plates are included for front and rear on most kits to increase steering response, while aluminum upper mounts with hardened rubber bushings are used on some applications for noise reduction. This suspension system is ideal for daily driving and occasional track use.

Fortune Auto 500 Q50 Coilovers

fortune auto 500 infiniti

  • Manufacturer: Fortune Auto
  • Levels of damping adjustment: 24
  • Construction type: Monotube
  • Spring rate front: 12kg/mm
  • Spring rate rear: 8kg/mm
  • Fitment: Infiniti Q50 AWD
  • Value for money: ????
  • Purchase link: Infiniti Q50 Fortune Auto 500 Coilovers

Our comment: For those that are looking for a long-term option, the Fortune Auto 500 presents a fantastic option.

Not only do they look fantastic, but also come at a reasonable price considering the fantastic quality that the company provides.

With a soft and smooth ride, they’re also capable of occasional light track days, but should you wish to take things to the next level further down the line; this is where they shine.

Unlike the rest of our list, you can upgrade these coilovers to 2-Way or 3-Way canisters at a later date, which is perfect for those that are just getting started with drifting or motorsport but potentially intending to take it more seriously later on.

Combine this with the ability to rebuild and re-valve these hand-built kits, along with a 5-year limited manufacturer’s warranty; they’re an awesome choice for those set on making their Q50 a long-term build.

Manufacturer description:Fortune Auto engineers were tasked with a focused goal to make the Generation 7 - 500 Series dampers the best single adjustable system on the market at a very affordable price point. All systems are completely hand-built. We insist on building bespoke suspension in order to offer the best quality control in the industry.

At Fortune Auto, we approach the science of suspension with a mentality of customization that has raised the industry’s standards of performance.

Megan Racing EZII Q50 Coilovers

megan racing ez ii infiniti

  • Manufacturer: Megan Racing
  • Levels of damping adjustment: 15
  • Construction type: Monotube
  • Spring rate front: 10kg/mm
  • Spring rate rear: 8kg/mm
  • Fitment: Infiniti Q50 RWD
  • Value for money: ????
  • Purchase link: Infiniti Q50 Megan Racing EZII Coilovers

Our comment: Another great-priced offering for our guide comes from Megan Racing.

Admittedly, we wouldn’t be using a kit such as this if we intended to be fighting for podiums in Formula Drift anytime soon.

Still, if you’re purely looking to lower your car for the street, or perhaps very occasional track use, then they are certainly worth considering.

Megan Racing is a brand that often gets hit with a mixed reception, but some owners have been delighted with their choice for the price, and we’ve seen their quality improve substantially in recent years.

In our opinion, it’s worth forking out a little extra cash for something like the Tein Flex Z or BC Racing BR coilover kits, but if you’re on a tight budget, these will likely serve you well.

Manufacturer description:Megan Racing EZ II Street Coilovers are designed to be comfortable enough for daily driving yet offer exceptional handling performance, increased grip and confident control.

These Megan Racing coilovers are a direct install and are one of the most popular coilovers due to their low price and exceptional build quality.

Rev9 Hyper Street II Q50 Coilovers

rev9 hyper street ii infiniti

  • Manufacturer: Rev9
  • Levels of damping adjustment: 32
  • Construction type: Monotube
  • Spring rate front: 14kg/mm
  • Spring rate rear: 12kg/mm
  • Fitment: Infiniti Q50 RWD
  • Value for money: ???
  • Purchase link: Infiniti Q50 Rev9 Hyper Street II Coilovers

Our comment: We’ve included the Rev9 kit for those of you on a tight budget looking to improve your Q50’s ride height without worrying too much about total comfort or refined handling.

If you do some thorough searching online, you’ll find that many owners have been extremely pleased with their Rev9 coilovers, especially for the money.

The downside is that we wouldn’t expect the typical long-term durability of premium brands, nor would we expect them to perform to the same standard along the way.

Still, as far as slamming your car goes, you’re going to struggle to get a cheaper package for the money.

Would we opt to run a kit this cheap on an awesome car such as a Q50? No bueno.

Manufacturer description:Looking for coilovers but don’t want to break the bank? Rev9 budget coilovers are considered one of the best “cheap” coilovers on the market and provide you with features that are just not found on other coilovers in this price range.

Includes top hats and 32 way adjustable dampers with height adjustable shocks, these Rev9 coilovers are perfect for those who want to replace all of their shocks and have a height adjustable coilover suspension.
