Introduction

Grand Theft Auto V (or GTA 5, GTA Online) certainly spoils gaming enthusiasts with their immensely vast catalog consisting of more than 500 cars and over 650 vehicles (not to mention the potential of adding even more vehicles with GTA mods. We understand it can be a little tricky to figure out which cars are the ultimate choice in the game for your top speed requirements!

For that reason, we’ll be breaking down the cars with the most brutal top speeds that GTA 5 has to offer in this guide to ensure that you’ll stand the very best chance of beating your friends or setting the best race times.

We’ll be prioritizing the comparison of the top speeds of the cars, but we’ll also take a look into the best laps set by a specific gamer to keep the times as honest as possible.

After all, we all know that grip drivers love a little controversy when it comes to lap times!

We’ve noticed that a lot of online articles which spoke about the top speeds have become severely outdated with the wide variety of updates and DLC’s that have come out since the games initial release.

For that reason, we’ve decided to launch an up-to-date guide to finding the ultimate top speed rides in the game!

There have been some crazy cars launched with the most recent updates, so we’ll be putting the vehicles with the “Rocket Booster” ability, such as the Grotti Vigilante (Smuggler’s Run 1.41 update), Declasse Scramjet (After Hours 1.44 update), along with with the other ‘Arena War 1.46′ updates. We’ll give them an individual comparison category later in the guide.

We’ll be basing the stats featured in this article on the most recent GTA 5/GTA Online updates as of February 2020.

We want to extend a huge thanks to Broughy1322 for the tremendous amount of time and effort compiling these facts for you to enjoy.

Here you can find a in-depth spreadsheet with stats on all of the vehicles on the game and also check out how each comprehensive test has been carried out.

If you’re after a quick, brief round-up in video form, this video provides it excellently.

GTA Online History

Whether you know the game as GTA 5, Grand Theft Auto V or GTA Online, there’s no disputing that the open-world action-adventure game, which was launched by Rockstar Games in 2013, immediately took the gaming world by storm.

With reviewers getting their hands on the early copies, it was clear before launch that GTA 5 was going to be one of the most incredible video games ever created, and indisputably the best in its genre.

Thankfully, it lived up to the hype, and within 24 hours of release, it had generated over $800 million in worldwide revenue, with approximately 11.21 copies making their way to the hands of eager fans that couldn’t wait to explore the game.

Within three days, the game achieved the milestone of $1 billion in sales, which earned it the title of the fastest-selling entertainment product in history.

By April 2018, the game had generated approximately $6 billion in revenue!

And finally, as we fast forward to the present day, Rockstar has shipped out more than an incredible 120 million copies worldwide across all platforms, which includes the Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Windows.

These sales statistics make it the third best selling game of all time, behind Minecraft and Tetris!

Fastest car in GTA Online

We’ve narrowed down the choice from over 500 cars and 650 vehicles to bring you the Top 15 fastest cars in GTA 5.

As we explained earlier, we’ll be ignoring the cars which feature the “Rocket Booster” upgrade, but you can scroll down if you’re keen to take a look at those.

Technically, with the booster enabled, there are five cars that outpace the winner, but only in short-term bursts.

15) Dewbauchee Vagner

  • Top speed: 126.75mph (203.98km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $1,535,000
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,000 kg
  • Update: 1.40 Gunrunning Pack

Dewbauchee’s Vagner became introduced to the game as part of the 1.40 Gunrunning pack. This prototype hypercar is often regarded as the ultimate all-around car in GTA V when it comes to the combination of speed, acceleration and handling.

There’s no doubt that the primary styling of the car has been based on Aston Martin’s Valkyrie hypercar prototype. Additional styling cues have come from Jaguar’s C-X75 and the Nio EP9.

With the amount of visible carbon fiber on the exterior of the vehicle, it’s easy to see why that the developers have aimed for a fantastic handling lightweight hypercar during the creation of the Vagner.

Its low stance and downforce make for fantastic handling, but hypercars weren’t designed with rough roads in mind, so be careful when pushing it to its limits, as the rear end can be a little unforgiving on anything other than a smooth surface!

It may not be the quickest in a straight line, but keep your eyes peeled for the Vagner as it’ll soon return on our list!

14) Progen Itali GTB Custom

itali gtb custom

  • Top speed: 127.00 mph (204.39 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: Total – $1,684,000 – $495,000 after $1,189,000 Progen Itali GTB purchase
  • Drivetrain: AWD
  • Weight: 1,600 kg
  • Update: 1.37 Import/Export

Just slightly topping the top speed of the Vagner, the Progen Itali GTB Custom enters our list at bang-on 127mph.

This car may well seem like a real bargain when comparing the price tag, but you’ll need to bear in mind that it’s a custom version of the Itali GTB, which means you’ll first need to purchase the original car from Benny’s Original Motor Works. You’ll then need to upgrade to the ‘Custom’ version for an additional $495,000.

Considering that the original Itali GTB already has a top speed of 126.25mph, this probably isn’t going to the wisest way to spend your money if hunting down top speed is your main priority.

The Itali GTB Custom certainly seems to take design ideas fro a variety of Mclaren’s, such as the 570S, 650S and P14, as well as the Trion Nemesis.

13) Överflöd Tyrant

overflod tyrant

  • Top speed: 127.00 mph (204.39 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $2,515,000
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,175 kg
  • Update: 1.43 Southern San Andreas Super Sport Series

There’s no doubt that the Tyrant is the most expensive in our list so far, but damn, she’s pretty!

With a matching top speed of the Itali GTB custom, its design resembles two Apollo cars, the Intensa Emozione and the Arrow, as well as the modern-day Ford GT.

12) Truffade Nero Custom

truffade nero custom

  • Top speed: 127.25 mph (204.79 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: Total – $2,045,000 – $605,000 after $1,440,000 Truffade Nero purchase
  • Drivetrain: AWD
  • Weight: 1,800 kg
  • Update: 1.37 Import/Export

Slightly faster than the two previous cars on our list, the Nero doesn’t consume much of your imagination to see which real-life car it’s based upon - the legendary Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo!

11) Imponte Deluxo

imponte deluxo

  • Top speed: 127.25 mph (204.79 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Sports Classic
  • Price: $4,721,500
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,600 kg
  • Update: 1.42 The Doomsday Heist

Head back to the future in this DeLorean DMC-12 styled Sports Classic, which is the only car to feature the abilities to hover, fly, float on water and also have weapon abilities!

Although the Deluxo certainly comes with a substantial price tag, this can be reduced to $3,550,000 once the discounted SecuroServe Trade Price becomes active upon completion of the Doomsday Heist Mission, which requires a facility property.

It may be expensive, but I’m afraid that your options are limited if you’re looking for an armor-clad 1,600kg car that’s capable of reaching 127.25mph!

It may be quick, but don’t expect this to be the most versatile choice when it comes to cornering!

10) Progen Emerus

progen emerus

  • Top speed: 127.25 mph (204.79 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $2,750,000
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,198 kg
  • Update: 1.48 Diamond Casino & Resort

The first entrant into our Top 10 list is the much-loved Progen Emerus.

It doesn’t take long to see the hints of the McLaren Senna, as well as the Senna GTR, but it’s also taken subtle hints from the Ferrari FXX-K, and a wing which strongly resembles the McLaren P1 GTR.

The Emerus isn’t the most straightforward car to drive in the game, but if you can get the hang of it, then you’ll soon reap the rewards of its cornering abilities.

9) Benefactor Krieger

  • Top speed: 127.25 mph (204.79 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $2,875,000
  • Drivetrain: AWD
  • Weight: 1,250 kg
  • Update: 1.48 Diamond Casino & Resort

Certainly, one of the best all-around supercars in the game and some will argue that it’s the very best. There’s no question that it’s a great combination of top speed, handling as well as the ability to keep its power down under acceleration.

Styling suggestions for this car are from the Audi R8 LMS GT3, and the Mercedes-AMG One.

‘Krieger’ in the German language translates to ‘warrior,’ and this supercar is determined to live up to its name!

8) Grotti X80 Proto

grotti x80 proto

  • Top speed: 127.50 mph (205.19 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $2,700,000
  • Drivetrain: AWD
  • Weight: 900 kg
  • Update: 1.34 Further Adventures in Finance and Felony

It’s easy to see how they’ve kept the weight down on this car when you see the true extent of the carbon fiber!

Fear not, the AWD drivetrain helps the car keep the power to the ground under rapid acceleration, making for one of the most impressive vehicles in the game.

With styling ideas from the Ferrari F80 Concept car, the GreenGT LeMans, and the Devel Sixteen, it certainly has the looks to match its performance!

7) Pegassi Toros

pegassi toros

  • Top speed: 127.50 mph (205.19 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: SUV
  • Price: $498,000
  • Drivetrain: AWD
  • Weight: 2,200 kg
  • Update: 1.46 Arena War

The Toros is usually overlooked due to being an SUV. Although it may be substantially-sized, this beast has still almost managed to find its way into the Top 5 fastest cars on the game!

If you’re after something more significant than a Supercar or Hypercar to inflict some high-speed damage, then the Toros will be perfect for your needs!

With a reasonable price tag, this is undoubtedly the cheapest car on offer if you’re looking to hang out with the big boys when it comes to top speed, but don’t expect the acceleration or handling to match!

With evident styling based on the Lamborghini Urus, it also has touches of the Audi Q8 as well as Aventador rear lights.

6) Grotti Itali GTO

grotti itali gto

  • Top speed: 127.75 mph (205.59 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Sports
  • Price: $1,965,000
  • Drivetrain: AWD
  • Weight: 1,520 kg
  • Update: 1.46 Arena War

The GTO is more of a Grand Tourer than a Supercar and falls into the ‘Sports’ class within the game.

Although the GTO features an impressive top speed, with excellent handling to match, it’s not the best at absorbing impacts, so if you’re not the best driver then it may end up in flames sooner than you’d hope!

Styling of the GTO has been based around the Ferrari 812 Superfast, with further design influences from the Corvette C7, Ferrari F12, and the Aston Martin Zagato.

5) Överflöd Entity XXR

overflod entity xxr

  • Top speed: 128.00 mph (206.00 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $2,305,000
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,400 kg
  • Update: 1.43 Southern San Andreas Super Sport Series

If you can tame this RWD beast, then you’ll be gifted with one of the best all-around cars in the game, with insane handling and impressive acceleration and top speed to match.

With that said, it’ll want to bite you whenever you least expect it, as the sheer brute force of the power to the rear wheels struggles to gain traction. If you’re not an advanced driver, this could catch you out when you least expect it.

Styling comes from the Koenigsegg One:1, with added touches from the Agera R.

4) Bravado Banshee 900R

  • Top speed: 131.00 mph (210.82 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $565,000
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,150 kg
  • Update: 1.32 January 2016 Update

Taking its place at 4th position is one of the most sought after, and also reasonably priced fast cars in the Grand Theft Auto series.

Although it has a temptation to oversteer and be a little tail-happy (which we’re not complaining about, at all), it can often lead to the car wanting to spin out into a 360 if you’re not careful.

When fully upgraded, this is a significant competitor to some of the best cars in the game, whether it’s in a straight line or setting lap times.

The 900R somewhat reminds us of the Veilside RX-7, but mainly takes its styling from the Hennessey Viper Venom 1000 and the Dodge Viper.

3) Principe Deveste Eight

principe deveste eight

  • Top speed: 131.75 mph (212.03 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $1,795,000
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 2,300 kg
  • Update: 1.46 Arena War

It may not be the lightest car in our list, but the Deveste Eight is undoubtedly up there with the very best!

It’s not only fast in a straight line, but the Deveste Eight is a serious contender for the fastest all-around car in the game, with a V16 powerplant to make up for the excess weight!

One of the best things about the Deveste Eight is its ability to withstand (and inflict) damage with the weight on its side. So, if you’re not the most skilled driver and you’re likely to take some bumps and knocks during your race, this could well be the perfect ride for you.

Rockstar has chosen the good looks of the Devel Sixteen, along with the Mazda Furai and the Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo, to present you with one of the most impressive cars in the game.

2) Pfister 811

pfister 811

  • Top speed: 132.50 mph (213.24 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $1,135,000
  • Drivetrain: AWD
  • Weight: 1,600 kg
  • Update: 1.34 Further Adventures in Finance and Felony

Rockstar took the Porsche 918, mated it with the Koenigsegg Regera, and then stole a spoiler from a Lotec C1000 to bring you one of the most insane cars on the game.

If you’ve already been researching this subject, then there’s no doubt that the 811 has come up quite a lot, and rightly so!

If a combination of brutal acceleration is your thing, then look no further, this most definitely the best car in the game for this.

While the Pfister 811 is an incredible car for long-distance, straight-line racing, it does fall a little short when it comes to the tight and technical corners.

Expect understeer when heading into a corner, and then oversteer when heading out. It makes for a fun drive, but not the greatest when it comes to setting the best lap times.

Due to the hybrid motor, it receives a small amount of speed loss during gear changing, which you may not notice, but is certainly worth consideration.

1) Ocelot Pariah

ocelot pariah

  • Top speed: 136.00 mph (218.87 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Sports
  • Price: $1,420,000
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,500 kg
  • Update: 1.42 The Doomsday Heist

After looking over some utterly ridiculous cars, we finally arrive at the #1 spot for the fastest car in GTA 5, which has been secured firmly for some time by the Ocelot Pariah.

When you see the Pariah, it’s our definition of a ‘sleeper.’ Despite competing against some of the most ridiculous hypercars in existence, this simple inline-4 engined Sports class car has managed to outpace all its competitors in a straight line, clocking an impressive 136 mph.

When it comes to the twisties, it’s still sure to put a smile on your face, as the RWD drivetrain tends to allow the back end to kick out, and you’ll need to utilize throttle control to drift your way through the corners.

We’re not saying it’s the best drift car in the game, but if you’re looking for the fastest RWD car in a straight line that can also provide some fun drifting antics in the corners, then this is a perfect choice.

Fastest rocket booster cars in GTA Online

As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, we didn’t think it was fair to include the Rocket Boost cars in our fastest cars in GTA Online guide; this is because the rocket boost soon runs out, which leaves you with rather disappointing top speeds.

However, for those of you that are interested, we’ve compiled this shortlist of the fastest rocket boost cars in GTA V.

4) Coil Rocket Voltic

  • Top speed: Approx 137.00 mph (220.48 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $3,830,400
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,200 kg
  • Update: 1.37 Import/Export

Imagine if the Tesla Roadster and the Lotus Elise had a baby, and then Elon Musk decided to strap a SpaceX rocket to it. That’s our basic interpretation of the Coil Rocket Voltic.

Based on the original Coil Voltic, this has quite literally had a rocket attached to the back, which enables you to achieve speeds of around 140mph when using the rocket boost.

Under typical power, the Rocket Voltic is still using the electric engine. Thankfully, this would keep Greta happy. Well, until she spots the rocket engine on the back, anyway.

Although it’s quick under boost, it needs nine seconds to recharge before it’s usable again.

3) Declasse Scramjet

  • Top speed: 137.00 mph (220.48 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $4,628,400
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,600 kg
  • Update: 1.44 After Hours

Based on the Mach Five car from the Speed Racer anime series, the Scramjet brings 1960’s styling to GTA 5, with hints of Alfa Romeo 33/2 Coupé Speciale styling.

Although it’s great for high speeds, partly thanks to its aerodynamics, but also the rocket boost, it’s painfully disappointing when it comes to approaching corners at any rational speeds.

It does, however, have some external weaponry, such as machine guns and rocket launchers, which helps slightly to justify the hefty price tag. However, its design means that it’s not quite so good at receiving fire, especially with the driver exposed.

2) Annis ZR-380

annis zr380

  • Top speed: 140.50 mph (226.11 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Sports
  • Price: $2,138,640
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 1,600 kg
  • Update: 1.46 Arena War

With three versions available, the Nightmare ZR-380, Future Shock ZR-380, and the Apocalypse ZR-380, this Nissan 350z/Nissan 370z/Porsche 935 mash-up is bound to put a smile on your face!

Fitted with many capabilities such as armor and weapons, this is not only capable of going in a fast line but also provides excellent handling and speed.

If you’re after something robust, robust, and fast when you need it, then look no further!

1) Grotti Vigilanti

grotti vigilante

  • Top speed: 147.00+ mph (236.57 km/h)
  • Vehicle class: Super
  • Price: $3,750,000
  • Drivetrain: RWD
  • Weight: 7,500 kg
  • Update: 1.41 Smuggler’s Run

Now, we’re quite sure that there’s not going to be any doubt in anyone’s mind on what the legendary Vigilanti has been based on!

Without a doubt, one of the most insane, and indeed the fastest, car in GTA 5 (when using the rocket boost), this manages to launch all 7,500 kg of weight up to an insane 147 mph!

Surprisingly, not only is it quick in a straight line, but it also handles impressively well considering the utterly ridiculous weight that it’s putting down!

As you probably guessed, the Vigilanti has been equipped with various machine guns and rocket launchers, and also can plow through just about any vehicle that decides to get in its way!

The rocket booster only takes 2.5 seconds to recharge on this car, which, as well as the highest speed, also makes it the most useful rocket-powered vehicle for high-speed racing.

What car has the fastest lap time in GTA Online?

With different vehicles excelling on different layouts, it’s never easy to figure which car is going to be the quickest in a timed race.

In Broughy1322’s testing, the Dewbauchee Vagner often wins in the Supers category, which is certainly impressive for a car that’s ranked 15th in the highest overall speed list!

In the Sports category, it’s the Ocelot Pariah that often takes the victory.

As you’d probably expect, the Vigilanti is often a winner too, with its sheer power yet surprising handling capabilities.

Conclusion

Although the Ocelot Pariah took the overall top speed victory in our guide, it was the Grotti Vigilanti that achieved the highest overall speed, but due to this being rocket boost powered, we’ve decided that this is void, since it’ll need recharging shortly after.

However, with just 10mph separating the Top 15 cars in our guide, it’s going to be down to your personal preference as to which car best suits your needs.

If you’re not the most talented driver, you’re going to want to consider a vehicle that’s robust and strong, so that you don’t end up decimating into a fireball when it all goes a little haywire during your race!

Thankfully, Rockstar has provided an incredibly comprehensive vehicle list within the game, with over 650 to choose from, and we’ve got no doubt that at least one of the cars on our list will be perfect for your high-speed needs!
